Another shot from the incredible @michelequigley. This gown was modeled after a “rare embroidered linen ‘Merveilleuse’ gown, French, 1796-1800” from the The Barreto Lancaster Collection of Napoleonic & Regency Dress that recently sold at @kerrytaylorauctions for £297,600. This style would have been the height of French fashion in the late 1790s and laid the groundwork for fashionable dress for the next two decades.

My version was a bit more budget friendly made from 3 cotton muslin curtains that I got for free and an upcycled thrifted linen duvet cover for the underdress.

We’ve been so honored to work with Margaret of @costumeandconservation on a multipart video series exploring this beautiful regency gown, fashion trends and customs of the period and making a tintype of all of it! Margaret came to our studio several months ago, sharing her expertise that we are so excited to share with you! This beauty is up @philamuseumart. It was so much fun (and a lot of work) recreating this gown. Each of the appliqués are custom cut paper wrapped with thread. The original was silk wrapped and my reproduction was DMC floss (as I couldn’t get the right silk thread these days!
