I’m trying to convince myself to work on making the EventBrite for the April Victorian Soirée and that prompted me to look back at photos from this past April and can we just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful these pictures @michelequigley took are, and how beautiful the people in my life are?

Most of the costumes in my work are historically accurate. But that’s really more often about who I’m collaborating with than what I’m striving for. Though I do love historical fashion, accuracy isn’t imperative in my work. For me it’s all about the aesthetic.

I’m drawn to color. I want richness and depth. I’m happy if what I’m showing is a faithful representation of a time period but what thrills me more is the way the light wraps around my subject. I get excited over building a set and watching the textures pop against a beautifully styled gown and delicately coiffed hair. I ache over the sheer beauty of it all. #historicalcostuming #fineartphotography #beautywillsavetheworld #historicalfashion #photography

Photo inspired by Portrait of Juliette Récamier, Jacques-Louis David, 1800, Louvre Museum, Paris, France.

I’ll let Maggie chime in with the dress details.

Fashion is a curious thing. Looking especially at what came before, one can see how radical the advent of this style of dress was. Maggie wears it well. The photo is modeled after two portraits of Juliette Récamier, a french Socialite famous for hosting salons of artists and intellectuals. *Portrait of Juliette Récamier, François Gérard, 1805, Musée Carnavalet, Paris, France.
