The harsh reality of Sundays in Houston, at the municipal shelter. Open intake is every Sunday, a line is wrapped around the building with people dropping off an animal.

Owner surrenders, found street animals and litters.

Please know, I’m not condemning people for waiting in this line, if they can no longer care for an animal or found it on the street, while sad, it’s a humane decision to get them into BARC. Could that animal hit the euthanasia list and potentially get humanely euthanized, sad truth, is yes. BUT it’s way better than a life on the streets in Houston. Getting hit by cars, starved, animal fights, cruel humans, BARC is much safer.

The whole point of this, is to say, it truly is heartbreaking. 💔

Please adopt responsibly, an animal is not a gift, it’s a potential 15+ year commitment.

Fostering, helps save dogs and gives the pups a place to land before finding their much deserved forever families.

& lastly, this reality will not change without stricter laws in place for animal rights, harsher punishments for back door breeders contributing to the over population in our city, spay and neutering your animals and humans being held accountable for their actions.

Progress has been made, sure. Still have a long way to go.

The sweetest little guy. Thanks to @rescuedpetsmovement & @4p4l_rescue for tagging this little loaf!

So many great things to say about little Wade. He is the most chill puppy! Upon arrival he was a big velcro boy, wanted to be in between your legs or touching you at all times. Over the next two weeks he really came out of his shell. Wade loved to sploot, play with his foster sisters, throw acorns around the yard and cuddle. His coat is really clean and he has the softest hair on his little head! Walking him is a dream, no hands required, just have to strap his leash to your waist, he doesn’t want to be far from you at all!

We had the best time fostering Wade and I just know he is going to thrive and his future family is going to fall in love and adore him just as much as we did!

Dog friendly ✅ (ALWAYS encourage slow intros)
People friendly ✅
Kid friendly ✅
Takes treats softly ✅
Meds 🚫 have to hide the pills (he will spit them out)

Hi, I’m Kane, I’m feeling a little under the weather and I could use some TLC and maybe an extra meal too BUT the best part is I’m super sweet and can’t wait to cuddle you!! The ladies at BARC said I walk very well on leash, and did GREAT on my temp test (whatever that means). I had fun playing and hopping around with the little friend next to me. I got to wear a bandana and show off my skills, big on sit & the best part, I got TREATS & lots of head scratches. They felt so nice!

Will you please get me out of here, I’ll be very quiet and well tempered, I even keep my kennel clean! I’d love a place to decompress and start to feel safe and loved again. Take a chance on me, I promise it’s worth it!

Oh to be loved by this sweet, sweet, handsome lad. Vilmer was my 60th foster, all 80lbs of him are perfection. He LOVES so BIG!

Colorado friends, yall better scoop him up before I drive up from Texas and get him back ;)

Crate Trained ✅ (treat motivated)
(Prefers to sleep in bed, on sofa or in dog bed)
Dog friendly ✅
Potty Trained ✅
Loves toys ✅
Takes treats gently ✅
Not food aggressive ✅
Does not resource guard ✅
Friendly thru the fence with other dogs ✅
Walks well on leash ✅
Will chase after squirrels ✅
Walks past cats ✅ (was not tested with them in a house setting)
Will tolerate baths ✅ (not a favorite past time)
Don’t leave shoes

Besides being a little mouthy when he plays, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this boy! He was such a joy to have stay with us, truly an amazing guy, who will make a phenomenal companion. He loves walks but is also completely okay lounging on the sofa. BIG on contact naps and loves affection. Vilmer was mindful of my resident girls boundaries and was such a positive fella.

Cheers to you and your happily ever after buddy! Rooting for ya!!

He’s been at The Cottage for less than a week and we are going to miss him so much! Such a playful, loving boy! Thanks @barkaboutitrescue for stepping up to save him & @joybrott for being his first place to land and thrive!

✅ Potty Trained
✅ Crate Trained
✅ Respectful of boundaries
✅ Loves Walks
✅ Sleeps through the night
✅ Loves Fetch
✅ Learned how to go up and down the stairs

The list goes on. Remy boy makes the FUNNIEST noises, and loved hanging with his foster sisters this week!

A few beige flags, Secretary of the National Squirrel Chasing Committee (watch your shoulders on walks), at times, when he wants to play, he will be vocal, but not aggressive.

Remington was one of the easiest intros I’ve ever experienced and knows no stranger. He was happy to meet and greet the fur neighbors, snooze on the couch, dog bed or at your feet. He loves to be held and will make you fall in love!

When he’s hungry, he will go straight to the kennel and sit until you feed him, so don’t you dare be a minute late ;)

12/10 GOOD BOY!!

12/10 best boy!! Heart & head as big as Texas!!

Cannot say enough about how GREAT this fella is! Loved his foster siblings, loved walks, loved lounging, loved naps on the couch. Such a chill guy and full of so much love!
