What raving felt like in 2012 πŸ•―οΈ

This was everywhere and I never got sick of it. What an anthem, I can feel the low ceilings and smell the cigerette smoke still when i hear that organ bassline. Bangar πŸ’₯

Ben Pearce β€” 'What I Might Do'. Out on MTA Records (the label Chase & Status founded) in September 2012, built around a sample of Anthony Hamilton's soul cut 'Cornbread, Fish & Collard Greens' β€” pitched down into that aching hook everyone knew before they knew the name.

Pete Tong made it his Essential New Tune. It hit #7 on the UK Singles Chart and #2 on the UK Dance Chart β€” a deep house record in the actual charts β€” before a 2013 Tesco advert put it in every living room in Britain.

EPISODE X: What deep house sounds like in 2026, with a tropical twist πŸ’ƒπŸ½

I’ve been going through this series looking at deep houses evolution across the years, and now we’ve got one from this year and by myself πŸš€

You can hear how all of that history and lineage has led up to this point, and hopefully you can start to see some of that evolution in the music I’m making 🎡

Hymn Exotic is really special to me because I made it while I was in Tayrona National Park in Colombia with my girlfriend (a Colombiana), right there on the Caribbean coast.

That’s what the record to feels like.
The sun on your back. The salt in the sea. That warm, humid air.

It’s got that dreamscape essence to it β€” lush, hypnotic, something you kind of drift into.
It pulls together that deep house element with this beachy, tropical feeling and hopefully transports you into the place.

Its made for daytime play, warm outdoor sets, or those uplifting closing moments where you want something bright deep and dreamy to leave on a high πŸ’₯

I love sharing the tracks that shaped my love for houze music and sharing my own journey through house music. Another big part of doing this series is also showing how I’ve arrived at my own sound.

There are so many people who came before me and paved the way. I’m standing on the shoulders of giants, and I want to make sure there’s always an appreciation and acknowledgement of that history in what I’m doing.

As I share more of my own music through this space, you’ll be able to see that connection and evolution more and more.

I believe I’ve done some justice to the people who helped build the house music machine πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Ep.2 β€” Episode two takes us to New York in 1992 & this record tell us alot about the evolution of deep house πŸ”‰

By this point, New York had become one of the epicentres of deep house β€” and right in the middle of it was Danny Tenaglia.

Under the alias Code 718, he releases Equinox on Strictly Rhythm.

Raw, tribal, progressive around the edges β€” a proper club record. That's what deep house could mean in New York at the time.

And Tenaglia deserves a series about him alone. The man is an animal.

He's been doing this my whole life, at the top of the game, and he's still got the passion for it.

Deep house, tribal, progressive, techno β€” he's moved through all of it. A true master and his still driving it forwards.

He was playing The Timber Yard in Port Melbourne, just a few miles from my house, only a few weeks ago.

One of the things I love about this story it bounces around the place.

Fast-forward almost two decades and the record ends up in Berlin.

Henrik Schwarz rebuilds it, Dixon edits it, and it comes out on Innervisions.

Long, patient, melodic β€” built up in that Innervisions way where nothing seems to arrive for minutes and you're completely locked into it.

I came into this episode intending to play that version, because I love that tune & play it often.

But when I pulled both versions up on the decks, I just couldn't bring myself to play the remix.
I had to play the original.

Because when you hear that 1992 record now, knowing everywhere that sound went afterwards, it shows how forward thinking the productions were.

New York to Berlin.
1992 to 2009.
Strictly Rhythm to Innervisions.

Cross-geographical, cross-temporal, interpolated and inverted β€” every single thing this series is trying to show about the word deep house, happening with one synth line.

That progressive synth line from the original is still roaring straight through the newer version.

That's the thing with this music.
The sound, people and places move.

However the way it makes you feel stays the same.

Joey Coco β€” Melbourne's own πŸ’₯

Really excited to have @joeycocodj bringing his infectious energy to the intimate "Speakeasy" space at Radio Nacional for the Uoopa Records party on Friday 23 October πŸ”Š

A few great clips here from Joey show you what his upbeat style is all about πŸ™Œ

A purveyor of anything soulful, deep and groove-led. Joey started out touring nationally in a hip-hop band before switching to his first love, house, and he's since become one of Melbourne's most in-demand selectors. Known for seamless mixing across every shade of house, he plays with real energy and always keeps one eye on the dance floor.

In the studio he's a Refuge Recordings regular, with releases on Nervous Records, Robsoul, Love Above and Music Is 4 Lovers. Most recently, Marco Carola played his Robsoul track 'As Far As The East Is From The West' at Club Space Miami, and his new Money Right EP with Demuir is out now on Purveyor Underground.

CASSETTE β€” SYDNEY β†’ MELBOURNE πŸš€

Really excited to have @cassettedj coming down from Sydney exclusively for the first Uoopa Records party on Friday 23 October πŸ”‰

Expect deep rolling basslines, jacking ’90s house, acid and plenty of soul. With roots in jazz and soul, Cassette’s sound moves through house, garage and acid while always keeping groove at the centre.

With more than a decade behind the decks, she’s taken that sound from Sydney dance floors to Sisyphos and Renate in Berlin, sunrise at S.A.S.H, and the Sydney Opera House, where she warmed up for Derrick May. Over the last few years she’s also appeared across festivals at home and abroad, including Subsonic, Shipwrecked and Sultra Sunrise, among others.

She’s also behind Bodywork, her own party and label project, built around house music, records and dance-floor culture.

On 23 October, Cassette comes to Melbourne exclusively for this one.

The final episode: What Deep House sounds like in 2026

Thirty episodes. Over forty-one years.

Producers on both sides of the Atlantic, and all the different sounds and scenes that have influenced each other along the way 🫑

We can argue all day about whether vocal-led or stripped-back really means Deep House. However we all love Deep House πŸš€

This word, and this label, means a lot to a lot of people.

One thing i have confirmed is that the internet knows more about Deep House than me πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ ar This series was my way of going through the tracks I love that shaped what deep house means to me.

I’m finishing with one of my own. (See links at bottom of caption)

β€œI Need You” was made in Colombia in June 2025 β€” on the outskirts of Anapoima, halfway down a mountain, beside a pool in 34-degree heat. 🌴

It was one of my first days there, early into a five-week trip. I didn’t know what I was trying to make and wanted capture how it felt.

All that early energy β€” excitement, anticipation, the whole trip wide open.

As I picked out one element after another, it all dissolved into this dreamy, tropical, lush space, with a bouncy bassline underneath it.
After spending 30 episodes talking about records I love, it feels right to finish with one of my own.

Thanks to everyone who watched, disagreed, sent me tracks, argued about what is and isn’t deep house, and followed the series through.
