I was proud to join Beyond Literacy for BeLit250 at the Parkway Central Library to celebrate adult learners who are opening doors to opportunity and economic mobility. In a city facing a literacy crisis, this work matters deeply. Literacy is a pathway out of poverty—and every person who gains access to education strengthens our entire city.

Last week, we celebrated America 250 with a Block Party Bonanza for students in the Extended Day, Extended Year program at Dr. Tanner G. Duckery School! 🇺🇸🎉

🌟 Summer Nights. Stronger Neighborhoods. Safer Communities.

The 2026 Summer Night Lights program kicks off next week, bringing free activities, recreation, mentorship, music, and community resources to Penrose and Winchester Recreation Centers all summer long. From sports and swim activities to wellness programs and family events, there’s something for everyone.

I’m also inviting you to join me this Thursday, July 16, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Winchester Recreation Center for our Summer Night Lights Public Safety Community Forum. Meet with City departments, hear updates on neighborhood public safety projects, ask questions, and connect with the people working to improve our communities every day.
