a message from the family - it’s hard to believe that we got the keys to our new home in march and opened the doors to the world in april, it’s even harder to now think of a life before counter, before so many wonderful people walked into our lives, before the long nights and early mornings, before the laughter and the crying and the thrills. we love what we do from the very depths of who we are and that’s not because we’re passionate about running a restaurant, don’t get me wrong, we love running a restaurant, but it’s mainly because every day we go to work and are rewarded with a never ending stream of new faces, new stories, new friends, new connections. the warmth we feel at counter isn’t something we created, it’s something everyone brings a little piece of and leaves behind, if you’re someone that’s left a little piece of it this year then we want to say thank you, with total sincerity. happy new year from nathalie, raymond, tatum & jaime ♥️

april 1st, one whole year of counter 🎈which means one year of family meals, one year of lunch deals, one year of early mornings baking courgette cake and late nights washing dishes. we’ve absolutely adored every single moment of it. when we began this journey we had no idea it would lead to this vibrant and exciting life
there’s just too many good memories to count and too many incredible people to thank, but that includes just about every single one of you reading this. oh and we’ll soon be celebrating …

we don’t often speak about our mission on here, because above all else we just want to be a nice and accessible place for the neighbourhood, but the truth is that our passion for plant-based food goes way beyond just taste, every single meal we’ve sold in the past year is made with the express purpose of being better for the planet, healthier for the people, and most importantly, completely and non-negotiably cruelty free. so thank you to everyone for the endless support and for showing that a kinder, cheaper, and more sustainable way to eat can still thrive our city. we’re not going anywhere!

family meal this week is puffed potatoes and roasted bimi on a caramelised onion puree. we hired a bunch of tiny lumberjacks to cut down all these little trees and bring them to your plates and luckily cos they’re not unionised dinner is still €12 by @counter.ams

family meal this week may look like spaghetti bolognese with parmesan but it’s actually dan dan inspired noodles with crispy vegan beef mince and fresh peanuts. sometimes things can look like other things - for example this dish looks like something you’d pay €20 for in a trendy small plates place that sells natural wine but it’s actually one you pay €12 for in a trendy big plates place that sells natural wine by @counter.ams

we’re having a party! this sunday (30th) from 13-18 we’ll be celebrating our lovely street being open again. we’ll be serving two of our favourite unconventional sandwiches, a dark chocolate and flake salt baguette and a salt & vinegar crisp butty. both served on buttered bread (ve). wash it down with a glass of €5 orange wine and bust a move to some vinyls being spun by our neighbourhood friends muchengeti and teus taken in Czaar Peterstraat Amsterdam by @counter.ams

family meal this week is a queen chickpea sugo with artichoke, smoked olive oil and fresh basil. this one was inspired by a lunch that our friends @little_scarfs made for us at their home after their wedding in manchester last weekend. we love love and we love chickpeas and we love sharing the love that’s why we’re bringing this deliciousness back overseas to share with the masses. (ps - we’re also having a day party on sunday but more info on here tomorrow, save the date!) by @counter.ams
