And we’re back—this time based out of Salt Lake City. Keeping things about as amateur as it gets. When we first landed here, there was no plan to race, and definitely no intention of making running part of the routine.

I’ve been running for years, but organized races were never really on the radar. That changed when a coworker mentioned the Speedgoat 50K—known as one of the toughest 50Ks in North America. Me not knowing when the race was or what it even is shows how little I knew about organized running but It felt like something worth chasing.

Training started two weeks ago. The race is just six weeks out—not a lot of time to prepare. But with some of the best training grounds right in our backyard, it suddenly feels a lot more obtainable at least without to much suffering.

We’ll see how far we can take it. taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @covergroundusa

The Next Generation of Climbers: Are They Just Better?

For the most part, we’re all aware of how much faster, stronger, and more athletic today’s athletes are compared to those of previous generations. This trend is evident across nearly every sport, and climbing is no exception—with records being broken almost monthly and grades being pushed to limits once thought impossible. That raises the question: are today’s athletes simply better overall? And if so, is it due to the advancements in technology, medicine, and training techniques that we now have compared to 40 years ago? But does that make it not fair to say they are better or do they just have the advantage of modernity?

Calling all writers, aspiring writers, or anyone who just wants to get their words out there. Getting published can be a hassle, especially with big-name mags picking from the same pool of people, most of whom have editors sitting in some office in New York, not out actually putting feet to the dirt. (Yeah we're talking about Outside Magazine) 👎🏻

That’s why we want to hear from you. The ones actually getting after it. Whether you’re climbing, hiking, trail running, surfing, if you’ve got a story about nutrition, technique, experience, or anything in between, we want to publish it.

We don’t have a team of fancy office junkies filtering your voice to fit a narrative. We just want to hear from everyday folks putting their gear to the test and training for their next local project.

DM us to find out more and how we publish you and what we give back when you do publish with us. ☠️🤟🏻💻📄 💴

Down by the river with gear sprawled out, the rack hanging, spliffs being smoked, and beer being drank inside the bus while bacon, eggs, and toast are coming up. If you haven’t checked out Polar Bear, First Ascents, and Rocktalk: Getting Out in Baffin by Kylus Hart, it’s his personal write-up from a short trip to Baffin, where he’s now preparing to return this May. Athletic excellence is about that rage to push your own limits. It doesn’t matter if you’re a pro landing a shotty deal with an energy drink company or simply pushing yourself to see what you’re capable of. Every move to improve is like art; it’s a process and the passion behind it matters most.

In the climbing world everyday athletes are what keep the sport trucking along. There is always the dirtbag climber chasing seasons, the college student crushing it between exams, or the nine to five climber who sends it on during the weekend. They hustle, they train, they get after it, and they deserve our support.

Coverground is built by climbers and amateur athletes for climbers and everyday athletes. Our mission is to bridge the gap between grassroots talent and real sponsorship opportunities. Our focus at the moment is climbing because that’s what we know. Click the link in the bio, check out the articles, and sign up for the newsletter. It’s the easiest way to show your support.

If you’re feeling bold and your wallet is a bit heavy, grab some stickers because a portion of every purchase goes back to our team of athletes for gear, fuel, beer or gas but no pressure.

Remember, the adventurous is rewawarded. For more info drop a DM; we’d love to hear from you. taken in Zion National Park by @covergroundusa

We’re beyond stoked to welcome @armandladouceur to the team!

This is a huge step forward in supporting up-and-coming grassroots athletes, and Armand is paving the way. He’s originally from Georgia and now studying in Colorado. At just 20 years old he’s already sent up to 5.14 and is on an absolute tear with no signs of slowing down.

We’re hyped to support him on future goals and projects, and can’t wait to hear more from him through his writing and posts. Stay tuned. Go check him out and give him a follow @armandladouceur

🏔️Longs Peak Winter Alpine Ascent Trip Report 🏔️ ☠️

A Frigid Dance on the Diamond: Winter Ascent of Longs Peak via Kenner's Route

"Although the weather throughout our entire ascent was as good as we could have asked for, a bluebird day, it just so happened to be one of the coldest on Longs Peak. Halfway through the traverse, the temperatures began to drop dramatically; it took all the layers we had brought to keep us even somewhat warm. We finally reached the end of the traverse after negotiating many easy snow slopes, arriving just below the Notch Couloir."
