This is my second year doing this tribute. Last years almost hit a million views. Let’s see if we can beat that this year. It feels good to drive to this lake, and play this tribute for those 29 men. 🎶🫶🌬️🪈🫡 the memes centered around this wreck are funny but it’s important to know this history of how this changed shipping as we know it.

Crazy story time. When Gordon Lightfoot initially wrote this song, he didn’t release it for months after the fact. He also thought that this song was insensitive to the families of the wreck. It wasn’t until they recorded the song that his band mates and other people around him, encouraged him to release the song as they said it was not distasteful, and it was in fact very respectful. Beyond that, the even crazier part is, that they recorded this song in one take. The version you hear, that we all know and love, was the first take that they recorded in the studio. They played other versions after but initially went back and decided the first recording that they ever did was the best version now if that’s not crazy, I don’t know what is.

The part that always gets me is “fellas it’s too rough to feed ya” followed with “fellas is been good to know ya”.

This wreck was also such a shock that the government FINALLY put regulations for major shipping fleets and updated the weather tracking infrastructure to prevent this again. It sucks that it took the death of these 29 men to get that motion underway. It sucks that regulations like this, are usually written in blood. #wreckoftheedmundfitzgerald #gordonlightfoot #432hzcouncil #dawgsof432 #edmundfitzgerald by @cowboyflutebob
