Kat’s 7 of Nolan’s 14. Hard to squeeze 69 hours of activity into a 90 second reel, but after a few days rest, here it is. For every challenge in the mountains, I am always rewarded with a beauty I just can’t find elsewhere. This truly is my home. Thank you to my tremendous support crew for getting me through safely. First and foremost, @johnanratliff74 but also to @caroliiiiiine @lorilorax1 @kimsgrinning @merunfar @lizzieki @chrisdtomer and @7kftco I’m working on my write-up, but all that detail takes a while, and, it’s the end of tax season so I’m also working to finish up a LOT of tax returns. CELINE’ing in the mountains with friends 1,000,000/10 recommend 🥰 Considering I entered 2026 with 37 stitches in my left hand from surgery, & painstakingly working back from fracturing my left foot, I REALLY wasn’t sure what would be possible for me this year. August arrives with trepidation. I’ve broken bones two out of my last three Augusts. The month’s calamity list has earned its suspicion. But the Rito Alto 4-Pass Loop has sat patiently on my adventure idea spreadsheet, waiting. Saturday was the day. Even the weather window agreed. With five incredibles from our Salida run group, we embarked on 23 miles and 6,300 feet of gain through four passes of the Sangre mountains. The mountain terrain often runs golden brown by August. We found lush green tundra pushing up through dramatic diagonal rock striations, layers of the earth tilted sideways. I stopped to stare at it.  And at the marmots.  Each person here carries their own stories of physical feats & comebacks. We shrugged off the weight of those hard times & laughed our way (with some huffing & puffing… for me anyway) while the miles melted away.   Grateful to have the Sangres in my backyard. Grateful for these people who keep encouraging & inspiring me to expand my “possible.” And I’m grateful for my body’s recovery - excessive scarring, fractures, & all. It took two tries to find this line to the summit of Missouri Mountain via the East Ridge, but it is still not the most direct route off Mt Belford, so I’ll keep trying until I can find it. #nolans14 by @cpakat
