@salidaburritoleague, part of the global @burrito.league, it’s very hard to put into words, but I shall try

Running a 0.185 mile out and back on a sidewalk sounds ridiculous, running/walking on a sidewalk when world class trails are literally a stones throw away is absurd and lastly repeating this @strava segment for weeks on end is a recipe for disaster.

The short segment allowed this event to be accessible to many folks, from walking to running, no street crossings to bathrooms on the segment. The lighted park allowed for safety no matter the conditions or time of day/night. The sidewalk allowed for everyone to push their own limits bc anyone could get out on the segment, it wasn’t intimidating like many events. The segment always met everyone where they were in their lives, days or even the moment.

The out and back nature of the segment allowed you to see everyone that was out there, getting in their miles or even laps. Everyone was always so friendly and this nature allowed everyone to stay in a positive mindset even whilst pushing their own bodies.

Doing this for weeks on end allowed our bodies to adapt the work being done. This adaptation then allowed people to push their own limits while closely monitoring their own bodies…it was always easy to quit being so close to your car. We have first half marathons, first full marathons, first 50 miles, first 100k, longest run since surgeries or joint replacement or injuries.

This silly thing allowed humans to bring out the best in themselves and everyone around them. It gave us community, confidence and a new definition of what we can do when your mind is in a happy place. We all came out of this stronger, more resilient and better people than we came into it.

To all of you who participated, I love you all and I’m grateful for each and every one of you.

To those who missed it, it will be back!

Now that we are done, I am working on an idea with some of our community leaders to use this vehicle to better serve our community in need. In the current social/political climate we find ourselves frustrated with, it’s time to do more. Stay tuned!
