Tuesday Booklist | Literacy is Legacy 📚

This week, we shared one of our guiding principles:

At CWMF, we believe becoming a stronger reader isn’t only about reading more. It’s about learning to find deeper meaning in what they read.

For expanding readers ages 9 to 12, that means beginning to look beyond what happens in a story and asking why it matters.

At this stage, readers are learning to notice character choices, understand different perspectives, make connections, question assumptions, and recognize the bigger ideas beneath the plot.

This week’s selections were chosen because each one gives young readers something deeper to consider. Together, they explore how family, history, culture, identity, friendship, loss, and belonging can shape the way people experience the world. They invite readers to consider why characters make certain choices, how circumstances influence perspective, and how a story can reveal meaning that is not immediately visible on the page.

For expanding readers, that kind of reading matters. It strengthens comprehension while developing the ability to interpret, reflect, connect ideas, and understand experiences beyond their own. These are the skills that begin to transform reading from simply understanding what a story says into thinking about what a story means.
