POV: You signed up for a craft conference. You did not sign up for your entire life being changed by a goodie bag and a stranger named Karen from California who is now your soulful pen pal.
And yet. HERE WE ARE.

Every year the Craftcation sponsors wow us with generosity and every year we are shocked even though we should not be, because they do this EVERY TIME. Full size. Real product. Useful tools and supplies that go directly into your creative practice the second you get home. Well sometimes not the second but maybe the second week, the come down is real #iykyk.

And then on top of that you leave with a brain full of strategy, a notebook full of ideas, a phone full of new contacts, and at least one friendship that started over shared snacks during a workshop break and will absolutely last the rest of your life.

You came with one bag. You’re going home with three and a found community. This is fine. This is great. We’re all crying in the airport.

Someone once told me that they love crafting in solitude, if that was you, keep scrolling. If you yearn for a yarn loving buddy, crafting copilot or a sewing machine master in the making then this might be for you.

How often have you crafted alone? Do you own a creative business and wish you had a friend who also got why it’s good to know what quarter you had the most sales in?

At Craftcation there might be a nationally recognized craft luminary sitting on your left and on your right a life long hobby crafter who just can’t get enough of that good good crafty time. What you won’t be is alone, even if you arrived that way.

Meet Amanda of Atlas & Orion, She spent 20 years in education and nonprofits before deciding burnout could kindly see itself out!

She will be presenting at Craftcation 2027 our five day creative retreat for crafty weirdos, creative business owners and craftprenures (it’s a word if we say it’s a word righ?). Her workshops lead grown-ups to remembering what it feels like to make something just because it’s fun, when she’s not in the studio she leads travelers on crafty retreats through Morocco’s markets and artisan workshops.

My entire creative philosophy can pretty much be summed up as WHY CAN’T THIS BE MORE FUN???

So naturally, when I looked at a boring plastic pill organizer, I saw an opportunity for absolute maximalist nonsense!!!!

I’m teaching this project at @craftcationconference in April, and I cannot WAIT to see what everyone creates!

I hear people say all the time that Craftcation changed their life. That they found their people here. That they finally felt like they belonged.

I love hearing that. But I don’t think I realized until recently how much Craftcation did the same thing for me.

I grew up feeling other. I was the creative weirdo. I talked too much. I was into things the other kids weren’t. While everyone else seemed to know how to fit in, I was reading poetry, hanging out in cafés, smoking clove cigarettes and dreaming about getting the hell out of Orange County.

Then in high school, I found a group of girls who didn’t just accept my weirdness—they appreciated it. Almost 40 years later, they’re still some of my closest friends.

I’ve found other people along the way, but Craftcation gave me that feeling again.

This year I turned 50. Which came with A LOT of feelings, so naturally I gathered some people I love and went to fuck around in Las Vegas.

And almost everyone who came into my life because of Craftcation.

We laughed. We cried. We adventured. I watched people who never would have known each other become friends. And somewhere in the middle of it, I realized:

Without Craftcation, I wouldn’t be here with these people.

This thing we created to help creative people find community had given me one, too.

So many of my friendships, ideas, inspiration and favorite memories exist because Craftcation brought people into my life I might never have met otherwise.

And THAT is the magic I want everyone to experience.

It’s why we started Neighborhood Hangouts—FREE get-togethers happening in multiple cities on the same day. Because a few hours crafting at a café or meeting for drinks might not be a weekend in Vegas, but it might be where you meet someone you were supposed to know. (Info + RSVP at the link in bio!)

I think some of us will always feel a little other.

But when you find your people, being different doesn’t feel quite so lonely.

If you’ve been watching Craftcation from afar thinking, “I don’t know anyone,” “Am I crafty enough?” or “Is it weird to come alone?”—this one’s for you.

We talked to some Craftcation first-timers about what it was like to take the leap and come for the first time.

Spoiler: they loved it.

They left with new skills, new friends and that magical feeling of finding people who get you.

We hear “I wish I had come sooner” ALL. THE. TIME.
