We’re making speakers out of fabric again! Our friends at @craftwork_collective are returning to Index to teach us how to weave speakers using conductive thread and magnets.
Led by Craftwork co-founders Nicole Yi Messier and Victoria Manganiello, we’ll learn the basics of weaving and how speakers work, then use hand looms to make our own fabric speakers that actually produce sound. At the end, we’ll bring everyone’s creations together for a little symphony of woven speakers.
No experience with weaving or electronics is needed, and all materials are included. You’ll leave with a working fabric speaker of your own!

Craftwork is back with another installment of Soft Speakers! An introduction to the world of eTextiles through a hands-on workshop where participants weave working speakers from conductive thread, fabric, and magnets.
Along the way, you’ll learn the basics of weaving, speaker engineering, and electronic textiles, then put everyone’s creations together for a collective symphony of soft speakers.
