I got to test the new Beach Yoga Suit from @brindilletwig I made a size XS and shortened the bodice by 1 inch. The athletic fabric is from @fabricandflow I loved it so much during my last collab with them that I bought extra!

This is such a quick sew — it only takes about an hour! The bodice is fully lined, and I love the simple halter ties. There’s elastic in the back neckline but none in the front, which works perfectly fine for me and makes construction even easier.

Such a fun, easy pattern for swimwear or yoga clothes! by @craftyprofessor

Happy 1st birthday to Jax! 🐶🎉

A few weeks ago I got to test the new City Bed pattern from @kind_form_studio, which was just released! It’s a beginner-friendly sewing pattern made with simple shapes, and I’m really happy with how mine turned out. I made a size medium, which fits Jax perfectly. I used waxed canvas for the base, faux suede from my stash for most of the bed, and some super soft faux fur from my stash for the insert cover. It’s incredibly comfy, Jax loves it, and I love how it looks in our house! The pattern is available now in the Kind Form Studio Etsy shop.

And since it’s his birthday, a little about the birthday boy! Jax is 25 pounds of soft, adorable, ridiculously lovable dog. He loves absolutely everyone—humans and dogs alike—and is always ready to lick a face. He loves the dog park, walks, playing fetch, and chewing on things (mostly things he’s actually allowed to chew these days). He’s also an excellent sleeper who loves sleeping in our bed and happily sleeps in.

He’s learned tons of tricks and commands, is great on a leash, and has gotten really good at “leave it” and “come.” Next up is agility training, and we’re planning for him to take the Canine Good Citizen test later this year.

We’re so happy he’s part of our family ❤️

This shirt has a whole story. 🐟

I drew these fish in Procreate (full disclosure: I got some ideas and did a little tracing from images I found around the web), then moved them around until I had something that would work as a seamless repeat.

I vectorized the design, cut it out of vinyl on my Cricut, and used that as a stencil on a piece of lino. I colored in the exposed areas with an acrylic marker, carved those areas away, glued the lino to a board, and printed the fabric by hand.

The hot pink cotton knit was actually free from a @rebecca_pearcy_textiles sale last year!

By the time I finished, I was pretty sick of printing fish 😂 and wasn’t entirely sure what I was going to do with hot pink fish fabric, so I asked AI to give me a mockup of something I could make with a half yard.

I used the @megannielsenpatterns Rowan tee and accidentally cut two fronts instead of a front and back. Luckily, the main difference is just the neckline height, so it worked out fine.

And I absolutely love the finished shirt! I’ve already gotten a ton of compliments on it!

Swipe to see a video of the whole process!

Draw fish → carve fish → print fish → wear fish. 🐟

I tried out the @truebiaspatterns Quinn Vest for the first time and I love how it came out in this POD print and hemp fabric (given to me from @minervadotcom )

I made a size 2 with no modifications. The fabric is a medium-to-heavyweight hemp from @minervadotcom, and I paired it with the @papercutpatterns Guise Pants in a lightweight chambray.

I also made this at the @portlandmqg retreat😍

Notes for next time – I’ll scoop the underarm area just a little bit and maybe make the bodice a half inch or an inch longer.

A couple weeks ago I went on @portlandmqg retreat. I had about 10 projects cut out and ready to sew on tue retreat and it think I finished 7 of them! This is one that I was really excited about- the @hisydgraham syd tie dress, with a few mods.

I made size 4. I’m not big on gathered sleeve heads (on me) so I flattened out the sleeve head to remove the gathers (way easier than I expected). I also wanted an above the knee length so shortened both tiers to achieve the length and proportions that I wanted. Fabric is @fableism that I bought at @moderndomestic by @craftyprofessor

I have some new hobbies that complement my sewing really well! I got a Cricut Maker this summer. I’ve been using it a lot, but honestly, I’ve just touched the surface on the types of projects. I plan to use it for. I’ve made quite a few iron on labels, a few stickers, and I have so many more ideas. But one of the things I’ve been using it for a lot lately has been to complement my newest hobby of Linocut block printing. I’ve been designing things that I want to black print, and then printing out a vinyl sticker and using that to help me trace my design on the linoleum block. After printing, I sew the pieces of the garment. I love the actual carving of the blocks as well. I find the details so satisfying and it’s a really different kind of activity and skill than sewing. Here are a few projects that I’ve made in the past few weeks. These are far from perfect, but I’ve been learning as I go for sure, and I’m just starting to get the hang of the technique and how to get my print to look good on fabric. Stay tuned! by @craftyprofessor

@fiberstofabric sent me this gorgeous lightweight cotton block print, and my original plan was to make myself a sundress. But when I asked my husband what I should make with it, he immediately requested a shirt, so I scrapped my dress idea and made us matching shirts instead.

For Kevin, I used the Thread Theory Fairfield Button-Up (short-sleeve version) and matching shorts. Honestly, I think the short-sleeve version is so much faster than the long-sleeve one since you skip all the sleeve placket construction. I also save a little more time by using the same pattern piece for the collar and collar facing (and the collar stand and stand facing) instead of cutting separate pieces.

For my top, I used the Azalea Top from Itzoma Pattern Company, which she generously gifted me after I tested her last release. I made a size 4. I was excited to sew this one because I love woven garments that still have a fitted look without requiring a ton of precise fitting. The back uses shirring (elastic thread in the bobbin), which cinches the waist and gives the top a much more tailored, flattering shape while still being really comfortable to wear. by @craftyprofessor

I finally wore my Uma Dress by @fridaypatterncompany that I made for my birthday party last week. 😂 I was so hot and sweaty by the time we got the block party set up that I couldn’t bring myself to change into it! I wore it this week to milwaukie porchfest. Swipe to see my family photo bombing my vid🤷🏼‍♀️

For reference, I made an XS in the bust, graded to a Small at the waist and hips. I shortened the skirt quite a bit, tapered it slightly so it’s a little shorter on the sides than the front, and (completely unintentionally) left the hem raw because I ran out of time, but honestly… I kind of like the unfinished look! Fabric is a rayon knit from @califabrics that has been in my stash for a minute.

Overall, I really love this pattern. The side ruching and the way the lining is incorporated into the bodice are such fun design details. That said, I do have a couple of modifications I’ll make before sewing another one.

The biggest issue is that the drawcord runs continuously through the front, back, and straps. The pattern suggests inserting elastic inside the cord, but the cord is incredibly long, so I skipped that step. After wearing it for a bit, though, I definitely think the strap sections (and probably the underarm sections) need elastic to help hold everything in place.

The other thing I noticed is that because it’s all one continuous drawcord, the bodice gradually sags lower as you wear it. My plan is to add elastic only where it’s needed, then stitch the drawcord in place where the straps begin in both the front and back so those sections can’t slide. I think that’ll keep the neckline sitting where it’s supposed to.

I’m planning to go back and make those tweaks on this version so it’s a bit more wearable. Overall I’m really excited about this dress and can definitely see myself making another one!

It’s our first day of a big summer vacation! Boston with family today and I wore my newest outfit for a stroll around Walden pond.

I got this rayon challis from some free bin at some point but I definitely don’t remember where🤔. I’m thinking it’s hand dyed because each of the three scraps I got was a different depth of purple. I was able to squeeze the top out of the darkest scrap and the skirt out of the medium purple piece and I think they work well together! The skirt is the #henriettaskirt by @spaghetti_western_sewing shortened to mini length (more on that below) and the top is @stitchwitchpatterns rothwell too - my first go at this pattern and it’s LOVE!!! What a perfect and comfy fit!

I was excited to try the Henrietta skirt in mini length (not one of the pattern options but I just shortened the panels. It definitely works, but there is more bulk on the sides and consequently it ends up looking longer in the sides than the front and back at this length. I don’t mind that look at all. I love the side gathers detail of this skirt and it’s quite disguised in this fabric - both the flowy nature and the busy print. It’s a super fast and easy skirt to make so I have no regrets but I do want to make another mini now in a solid or pattern that will help showcase the cool design of it more. by @craftyprofessor

Darla Dress Hot Off the Machine

This is the Darla Dress by @truebias , sewn in a straight size 2, even though my hip measurement falls into a size 6. I especially love the back details—they’re such a fun feature of this pattern. It’s made in Shirtweight Linen from Fabric Mart (that’s been sitting in my stash for a few years) and is perfect for summer.

I did struggle a bit with the bust fit. I ended up extending both darts slightly, which made a big improvement, but it’s still just a little too roomy in the bust. Overall, though, I’m really happy with how it turned out, but I think I’ll toile the bodice a bit more and then make up the jumpsuit version!

Yesterday I wore two of my newest makes for the first time to do a bit of sewing at @kinship_pdx . I felt so comfy and confident in this outfit yesterday.

Pants are @sewliberated newest pattern, the Madrone pants in a lightweight linen. I made a size 6 based on my measurements. Not surprisingly these were so fun to make and all of the details are just so well thought out and lovely. This pattern is really a masterpiece!

The top is @megannielsenpatterns Rowan Top in a viscose knit, size 2 graded to 4. I actually just bought this pattern the other night on a whim when I was trying to find a new T-shirt pattern and projected it and made it up within a couple hours of purchasing it. And I freaking love it.

Linen Fabric details:
• Fabric: FS Signature Finish 100% Linen (Fabric Store)
• Weight: Medium weight – 5.3 oz/yd² (180 gsm)
• Colors: Nine Iron and Graphite
