After spending my career behind the camera, I found myself stepping in front of it. The latest issue of Spiel magazine features a story on my journey through filmmaking, old Porsches, Rennfilms, and the curiosity that has quietly guided so much of my career. Seeing all of those experiences gathered into one story is pretty remarkable, and something I’m deeply grateful for. Looking through these pages, I’m reminded less of the cars or the films than of the people. The friendships. The mentors. The clients who trusted us. My wife Courtney and daughter Taitum, who have been beside me through all of it. Every project, every road trip, every late night in the edit suite has somehow led to the next adventure. I feel incredibly lucky that I get to do this for a living. To make things. To learn. To stay curious. To spend time with remarkable people and tell their stories. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey so far. I’m grateful beyond words. taken in Los Angeles, California by @craigbbrooks

Earlier this month, I lost my closest friend. For nearly twenty years, Lou Maxon helped shape the person I became. He changed how I see design, craft and storytelling. He challenged me, trusted me, laughed with me, opened doors for me and, in many ways, helped build the foundation of Kontent Partners. His fingerprints are everywhere in my life, and because of that, they’re everywhere in this company too. People will know Lou in different ways. They’ll know the creative leader, the designer, the storyteller, the writer, the connector. I knew all of those versions too. But I knew the friend. When I met Lou in late 2008, Kontent Partners was still in its infancy. I walked into his office expecting to meet a creative director. I walked out having met someone who would fundamentally change the way I thought about creativity. Looking back, that was my design school. I’m not a designer, but Lou taught me how to think like one. He taught me that craft is care. That details matter. That curiosity is something to protect. That great work comes from people who care deeply enough to keep asking, “Can this be better?” There isn’t a corner of my life where I don’t see his influence. I see it in how I approach a story, in the work I gravitate toward and in the standards I try to uphold. Lou helped shape me. Because he helped shape me, he helped shape Kontent Partners. I still can’t quite believe he’s gone. But every day I see pieces of him in this company, in the work we do, and in the way I look at the world. I miss my friend. taken in Seattle, Washington by @craigbbrooks

Thrilled to have been invited to @24heuresdumans to see @graynewell participate in his first LM24 with @theheartofracing and @astonmartinracingofficial His first Le Mans and he and his teammates secured a P3 Podium finish. 🏆 This is my extended family having spent several years filming with them. The teams growth and expansion over these past few years is nothing short of impressive, inspiring and everyone connected to its extended family of colleagues and friends is a humbling group of legends and risk takers. This was an experience I’ll hold close for the rest of my days. 🎬 @theheartofracing #valkyrie #astonmartinracing #riskandcuriosity taken in Circuit Le Mans de La Sarthe by @craigbbrooks

The Shape of a Life Part 1 A quiet drive in an old 911. Sometimes that’s just the right space for an idea to spark. Words and music from the opening of Eric Pollard’s film “Drawn From Here” ‘Far’ composed by Stephen Gutheinz. ..living life as a creative. it's risk, failure, self doubt, struggle, daily challenge, the most rewarding and lonely, a life you are 'forced' to live, you must be brave, willing to risk, take leaps into the dark.. taken in New York by @craigbbrooks

Started brown. Now green. Somewhere in the middle was a lot of sanding, patience, second guessing, and figuring it out. Worth every minute. Thank you Marky - all because of you 👏🏻🏁 Some things get better the more of yourself you put into them. taken in Seattle, Washington by @craigbbrooks

Of all the films I’ve made in my career, this series (8 films/episodes) is far and away the most significant and meaningful for me not only as a creative, but as a human. This is the trailer for the film series “Eyes Up” following Gray Newell on his rookie race season. This story is personal and raw. There is nowhere to hide when you’re learning in public, and he let us see it all - the fear, the frustration, the moments of breakthrough. This is more than just a story about becoming a better driver, it’s about growing up under pressure. Thank you to Gray Newell, Ian James, Gabe Newell, Michael Lewington and my top shelf crew - who without their efforts and skill I’d be just a guy with a pencil and an idea.
