🌻Book Review🌻

🌻Correspondent by Virginia Evans
🌻🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

🌻The entire book is told through letters, emails and written correspondence. What is commendable is how efficiently the whole book is narrator through a 70 years old lady, covering all aspects of her life ranging from her youth, her work, her personal life, her bond with her children, her friends and now her admirers at this age(which by the way is so flawlessly funny and at the same time describes how much value a woman should give to what she wants in her life). The book is emotional at the right places but it will also make you laugh, feel the pain she went through and the most impressive part which i loved was that she wasnt described as a perfect narrator- no! Evans brought out her flaws and mistakes she made in her life which will make you love the entire set up of this book. It is so beleievable a character which will stay with you for a while.

🌻Another thing i loved was that this 70 year old narrator- Sybil was able to maintain her regular correspondence with writers whose books she loved so much that she had to tell them what all she liked after reading them. Through these letters, we get to know Sybil not just as a writer, but as a woman coming to terms with her past. She’s sharp-tongued, funny, and at times frustratingly stubborn. Yet beneath that confident exterior lies a deep well of regret, loneliness, and longing. As she faces old mistakes, strained relationships with her children, and a haunting loss from decades ago, the letters become her way of trying to make peace, with others and with herself.

🌻A book you can easily read in a day and that will stay with you for a while making you think about it in the middle of you busy work day like it did for me♥️! Correspondence is one long letter to connection itself, one that makes you think on how words alone can wound you, heal you and at the same time bridge years of distance with such a deeply personal touch. Heartwarming, bittersweet, reflective, and so so relatable.

🍂The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong
🌟🌟🌟.💫/5

🍂”Somebody goes ahead and dies and all of a sudden you become a box for them, he thought, you store these things that no one has ever seen and you go on living like that, your head a coffin to keep memories of the dead alive. But what do you do with that kind of box? Where do you put it down?”

🍂Sometimes your own thoughts are so loud inside your head, so overwhelmingly screaming inside you, that it becomes difficult to comprehend things around you. This book is well… that silent scream. Inside of you. Unable to express and yet will fill you with a kind of grief that you will experience for someone else but it will gradually become a part of you. This book will make you close it for a while and stare at the blank wall to understand what it means to have shared grief and loneliness with someone you do not know that well and yet you feel the deepest connection with the isntant you find them. Yes that sort of connection does happen. At so many places i was reminded of my time reading Goldfinch. Both these books made me realize how unspoken pain and unexpressed loenliness feels like. Like where does it all go? Do you forget it eventually or does it stay inside you a d you just learn to live with it?!

🍂The story begins in the fictional town of East Gladness, Connecticut, with the unlikely encounter between the young Vietnamese-American man, Hai, who is planning to jump from a building, feeling that he has “run out of paths to take,” and the 80-year-old Grazina Vitkus, a World War II refugee from Lithuania. Grazina offers Hai lodging in return for helping to remind her to take her medicine, and their honest friendship illuminates the otherwise stark and cruel world they navigate.

🍂All that said, this book is a strong and deep. One of the laudable aspect of this novel is its undeniable weirdness. Vuong’s particular flavor of weirdness emerges from a combination of unusual imagery, characters from our everyday lives, and such a vivid depiction of mundane details that makes each scene feel both entirely realistic and also like it’s taking place in some surrea by @crazyinsaneavidreader

🤎Book Review🤎

🍂White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

🍂Can a Single moment of connection change the course of a lifetime?

🍂”May you be for ever blessed for that moment of bliss and happiness which you gave to another lonely and grateful heart. Isn't such a moment sufficient for the whole of one's life?”

🍂”It suddenly seemed to me that I was lonely, that everyone was forsaking me and going away from me.”

🍂I believe anyone who will read this book will eventually fall in love with it! Dostoevsky has so beautifully portrayed love, loneliness, grief and such fragile intimacy between two people who fall in love over such short span of time and know that they will love each other for a lifetime no matter they will be apart.

🍂The story is about an unnamed narrator who rescues a crying girl only to fall in love with her. They spend consecutive four twilight nights together sharing their inner most thoughts, their life stories, their fears and their vulnerabilities. It so aptly captures the ache of isolation so intense that its hard to overcome that barrier, the pain of unrequited love so deep that the reader will be left shaken, and the intensity of feelings only a heart so pure and true in love can experience.

🍂This is such a poignant, quite and tender story, it will leave your heart aching for a long long while. The book captures what it is to be in love and how very very different it is from romance. A book to be read only if you are ready to be left with pain, ache and thoughts of how it feels not be chosen. by @crazyinsaneavidreader

#Before I Knew I Loved You by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

☕️ We all know which series is being talked about here! The sixth book in Toshikazu Kawaguchi’s café series❤️!

Another marvel! The book presents four interconnected stories that will touch your heart deeply and make you wonder about different forms of love we experience in our lives.

My first question to you is:
What will your reaction be if you come to know there exists a cafe that offers you a special seat in which you could travel back to the past or visit future once for a small window in time to meet someone.. anyone you want just to see them once and tell them how you feel? AND who would you love to do this for?

This sixth book of our much beloved series offers four stories are titled The Runaway, The Patient Man, The Secret, and The Father and Son.
-A daughter who could not bring herself to call her mother.
-A man who sent a message to his girlfriend and waited, and waited, and never heard back.
-A woman who does not want to look behind her. She wants to look ahead.
-A student who lost his father and is not finished with him yet.

The love in this book spans generations in both directions- love moving upward towards a parent, love moving forward towards a child, love moving sideways towards a partner who went quiet.

I will tell you what is new here, and what gives this book a different meaning from the other five, it is the café’s visitors who wish to travel in time to repair what was lost and to gain what can never be theirs. These are not people who have lived a lifetime and now have come to regret.... these are the people at the beginning of their lives, which means the grief experienced is so raw and different. It is both grief of loss and of not knowing: not having said something yet, not being sure what comes next. Something to be ready about! And Remembered❤️

🌺Book Review🌺

🌺Marigold by Heena Singhal
🌺🌟🌟🌟🌟.5/5

🌺Its official. I will read anything @pages_pen_heena writes. Even her grocery list! What a deeply deeply emotional read. It took me a while to read this book- just because i wanted to savour each sentence and each page of this book. Loved everything about this beautiful story. The writing, the character building, i loved how raw and unedited emotions were portrayed here. If you are looking for a book that will deeply shake you to the core, how grief has different layers, how an ordinary person can come to terms with death and loss in his life, and how people carry weight of all this all their lives and still survive. Commendable❤️

🌺The story begins with Marigold dealing with personal loss while trying to maintain balance in her life. As she starts therapy and attempts to process her emotions, unexpected events slowly push her toward truths connected to her family and her own past. The discovery of hidden writings about her parents becomes an important turning point in the novel. Through this, the narrative moves between timelines and relationships, gradually revealing deeper emotional layers. As we delve deeper- we get to know Ira- one of the most emotionally complex character i have read about and so loved her.

🌺The strongest and impactful part of this book is how it handles its human emotions. When you read this book you will understand each emotion of every character. The emotional conflicts feel personal and intimate, especially because the story focuses heavily on the inner worlds of its characters. Marigold herself is written as a complex person who is struggling to understand both herself and the people around her. Her thoughts often blur the line between memory, imagination, and reality, which gives the book a reflective and almost dreamlike quality at times. There is so much i want to say about this book and yet i am honestly finding less and less words to decscribe how i am feeling about this.

@pages_pen_heena singhal loved both of your books. Please give us more. I would for sure be waiting for your next one!! All my hearts love for Songs of the Reed and Ma by @crazyinsaneavidreader

🪕Draupadi by Koral DasGupta
🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

🪕Amongst all the Indian historical characters i have read anout, i keep going back to the life story of Draupadi everytime. Draupadi is a central and revered heroine in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Born from a sacrificial fire, she is celebrated for her beauty, resilience, and unyielding will. As the queen of the five Pandava brothers, her life and trials famously drive the epic Kurukshetra War.
I have always felt a connection with her story, her endurance, her struggles, her pain and most importantly her courage. In the world of men, Draupadi resists dominant power play and abusive behaviour, upholding her strong sense of justice, denouncing evil, and standing for exemplary fight between what is right and what is wrong.

🪕The book depicts the first person feminine account of our revered epic Mahabharat with a flair that is unmatched. Right from the starting you will feel a magical pull in this book. The depiction of the Mahabharat - a timeless tale is so beautifully done to stir your sour and leave an unquencheable fire in your heart. I have always felt mesmerized by the friendship that was between Drauadi and Krishna. A self less love that can never be described in words.

‘I will still refuse to fit into their word counts.”
She says, speaking of writers.

‘The rest would be misinformed visitors and manipulative observers relaying twisted versions of my story.’

A dialogue(among others) which will always play itself on mind for the rest of my life!!!

🪕The entire magic created in this book by Koral Das Gupta is something to sit back and devour piece by piece on a relaxed day of a week with a cup of coffee in hand and some music for soul.

PS: Pictures are from a beautiful city- Udaipur- celebrated for its romantic history amid the Aravalli Hills, Rajput-era architecture, and historic royal heritage. by @crazyinsaneavidreader

🪄Book Review🪄

🪄Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L.Wang
🪄🌟🌟🌟🌟.💫/5

🪄Fellow Bookstagrammers- Please believe the hype on this❤️❤️! Its been a week that i have read this book and i still cant stop thinking about it. One of athe best standalones in Dark Academia Genre!! The writing is so effective and dark- it has the power to suck you in in the Prologue itself. I dont think you will be able to put it down. I went into this one blind and i think thats what made me love it so much. The world building and the unique magical system, the main protaganist being female- trying to prove herself in this world of men… an incredible plot with precise and such brilliant execution!

🪄I wont divulge much by giving away the story- a just concise one here because as i said- its better to know less to read this with all your heart❤️. There are two main characters, Sciona and Thomil. Sciona is, for all intents and purposes, an orphan who definitely has a chip on her shoulder. She’s determined to become the first female mage admitted to Tiran’s High Magistry, and has dedicated her entire life to making this happen. She’s truly also brilliant. And her male colleagues want to thwart her every step of the way. Thinking they’re putting her at a disadvantage, they give her Thomil, a Kwen janitor who’s never done magic in his life. His people lived beyond the barrier and safety of the city of Tiran, as nomadic tribes and hunters. And they’re basically treated like slaves in Tiran. Thomil proves a quick learner, and although they make an unlikely team, they’re both after the truth.

🪄While doing her research, Sciona stumbles upon one truth that shakes her whole belief system and this leads to the most chilling fight between good and evil. This magic is paired with a religious component, and as we know, every bit of magic always comes at a price. How far are you willing to go for to find the truth? Do your intentions matter most? Or the results of your actions taken? Who is worthy of being saved and protected?

🪄READ THE BOOK❤️❤️❤️ I am going to read anything Wang writes now!

🍂Book Review

🍂The Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

🍂One of the best fantasy i have read recently. I dont have words enough to say how much i loved this book. It is 672 pages long and every page was worth it. Once i picked it up it was so hard to take breaks and go in for work lol! I had to finish it. A masterpiece in true senec having all elements of a great story telling.

🍂
‘‘I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.

My name is Kvothe.
You may have heard of me’!!!’

🍂So begins the tale of Kvothe – currently known as Kote, the unassuming innkeepter. One day due to a threat at his inn, he accidentally reveals his truth to a few who are looking for him. This begins Kvothe’s story as told to a person named Chronicler told in a span of three days. Life starting from his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, through his years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic. In these pages you will come to know Kvothe the notorious magician, the accomplished thief, the masterful musician, the dragon-slayer, the legend-hunter, the lover, the thief and the infamous assassin.

🍂How can you not love a character like Kvothe? I couldn’t help loving him. A lot of the charm of this book is Kvothe’s charm, his indelible appeal, as well as the human scale of his personal story. If he isn’t the hero others think he is, he is still more heroic than he gives himself credit for.

🍂A book that will definitely require a huge investment of your time but worth every word.❤️❤️ by @crazyinsaneavidreader

🚀Book Review🚀

🚀Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
🚀🌟🌟🌟.💫/5

🚀I love reading her books so much. The writing style, the story building, the complex human relations, bared and raw emotions that her characters portray, and the storyline that will keep you hooked till the end. Thats what make me pick her books blindly. I went into this one expecting so so much. When a book is just too hyped, i think its a given that a reader will have high hopes with it. I liked it but i wasnt blown away as was promised by so many people around me. Still a lovely read, just not something that will stay with me a long time.

🚀Joan- the main character has never considered space a real possibility for her until she came across an advertisement seeking the first women scientists to join NASA’s space shuttle program. Suddenly, Joan burns to be one of the few people to go to space. The novel starts in December 1984 – Joan, the main character, is in Mission Control in Houston when things start going wrong with the latest crew/mission in orbit – astronauts she trained with and considers some of her closest friends. There is also something specific about Joan’s relationship with Vanessa but it takes quite a while to get to the details of exactly what is between them vs what is past baggage etc. In the 1984 timeline, the novel switches between Joan’s perspective on the ground and Vanessa’s in the shuttle as she deals with the equipment failures around her and its impact on her crew members.

🚀The novel also flashes back 7 years, and alternates between bringing the reader up to speed with how Joan got to where she is and the developing situation. Also one of the major part of the plot is Joan’s sister Barbara and her daughter Frances. Joan’s a devoted aunt to her niece Frances, and in many ways she serves as a mother figure as Frances’ mother is absent and selfish. The relationship between Joan and Frances was lovely.

🚀You will enjoy this book over summers if you like reading about space, love and ofcourse a good writing piece. ❤️

🌱The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
🌱🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

🌱The God of Small Things is a book I have often thought about reading since i bought it when i was a student. Back then i also remember opening the book, reading the first page and putting it back on my shelf since i found it to be not my cup of tea. I believe there is a time for reading some books and i strongly also believe that when the time is right you will eventually get to it. Had i tried reading it before now i am so aure i wouldnt have at all liked it. But now, Now i understood this book. What it was trying to convey, the heart of the book and what was the meaning of everything Roy was trying to portray through each of her beautiful characters here. The book will haunt you.

🌱The God of Small Things starts with a mystery which you will understand at the end but trust me it will keep you turning pages till the end while making a deep deep impact on your mind and a very peculiar yet disturbing place in your heart.

🌱The book tells the story of a dysfunctional family, who live at Ayemenem, in the south west of India, the home country of the author. The whole story is mapped out in the first chapter, which takes up less than one-tenth of the novel. Thereafter layers of detail are added, and the reader is given more understanding of what they have already been told, until the central incident is finally fully explained in the last few chapters. Most of the book is set in 1969, with a tragedy tearing apart the family. There is also a big chunk in 1993, as a twin brother and sister, Estha and Rahel, inseparable and aged only seven at the outset, but then forced to live apart for 24 years, experience an uneasy reunion. Much of the story is seen through the eyes of the twins. Other parts of the story go back long before their birth, even reaching a family event in 1876. Throughout the book, events hop backward and forward between different times, and locations – with some scenes in Britain and the USA.

🌱Oh there is so much i want to say about this book. It has all the elements- Nature form such a beautiful part in yhe story. 👇🏻(continued in the comment) by @crazyinsaneavidreader

🌳Real Life by Amrita Mahale

🌟🌟🌟.5/5

🌳This is the first book i read by Amrita Mahale and i am hoping it wont be the last. I loved her writing style. Its captivating. Its just maybe i was expecting more from this book when i picked it up. The story is set from three different point of views and as you journey through their lives you will understand what each has gone through or going through now. There are pages where you will find yourself stuck as to why this happened and did you miss soemthing in the earlier pages.. but no! That will be revealed further in the next chapters.

🌳Tara and Mansi, Mansi and Tara, are friends whose names go together in the way those of old friends and couples do; it’s either both or none. In this novel, their friendship is the main protagonist. The first chapter begins with the news that Tara is missing without a trace—she’s a wildlife biologist researching wild dog packs in the Himalayas. Her best friend, Mansi, arrives in Jora, the small mountain town packed with foreign tourists and trekkers where Tara lives, to look for her.

🌳The prime suspect is Bhaskar, a man whom Mansi inadvertently introduced to Tara and one who is seemingly obsessed with her. At first glance, it looks like an open-and-shut case, but half-truths and new facts and perspectives emerge, complicating the search for Tara. Written from the point of view of Tara, Mansi, and Bhaskar, a full picture emerges of each character: how Bhaskar’s past experiences in college, intertwined with Mansi and Tara, now colour his present; how Mansi’s marriage is unravelling one silence at a time; and how Tara’s choices drive her into the fold of the mountains.

🌳A fun read all in all!

🐠Hooked by Asako Yuzuki

🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

🐠I will read anything this author writes. Anytime! I love her writing. I had loved reading Butter and i was literally dying to get my hands on this book. Well! A beautiful read. Such a deeply thought narration about female loneliness, the complications of friendships between women and how life will teach women to survive and depend only on themselves at the end. It will make you dive into the lives of Eriko and Shoko and make you explore the tensions of female solidarity through women seeking the hope and possibility of connection, in a quest to feel less lonely.

🐠Eriko appears to be a notmal wone who has everything a person could ask for. A good paying job, her parents who love her and the freedom to live her life as she wants to. But when you look closely, deep down she is so lonely and is always looking for closeness amongst people she meets in her life. So much to the extent that her friendship becomes suffocating for the other person and they eventually cut her off. She stumbles upon a blog of a housewife- who has all she has ever desired. She becomes hooked to her lifestyle and sets out to make her her best friend.

🐠Shoko- the housewife, has a successful blog where she appears to be a laid- back housewife who doesnt have to cook, do household chores, all she does is relax and eat out visiting famous cafes. Once we get to know th real Shoko- thats another story. Both these women are have never had close friendships with other women and thats what draws them to each other at first, which later turns into unsettling and obssessive behaviour, coercion, lies, secrets and finally blackmail. They eventually have a falling out.

🐠What happend later, do they re- bond or fo they learn a whole new meaning to life with not so much help from each other- you will have to find out by reading this immensely disturbing yet satisfying novel. IT WILL MAKE YOU THINK!
