I have just completed one of the most ambitious pieces that I have done to date! I began this piece in January of 2025 and have worked on it intermittently with other projects since then. This summer I decided to push hard to finish it….it has been my constant companion for several months….I learned a great deal in the process of making it, and stretched my patience well beyond what I thought were my limits. I spent almost as much time untangling wires as I did weaving, but in the end I am so grateful that I persevered! It’s a sterling silver contemporary ruff consisting of two rows of trumpet motifs…28 motifs in all. It has an invisible clasp in the front and the chains taper and terminate with a gradation of fine pearls. These are just snapshots … I cannot wait to get it professionally photographed. It is so stunning on the neck, I think we will have to do a model shoot!#contemporarycraft#americancraft#contemporaryjewelry#fiberartnow#contemporarylace by @creativehye

Pictured here, in order of carousel is Chroma, Crescita, Leather Boot, Heritage, Lace Collar, Faultlines, Halo Necklace, Prayer Beads, and Talking Timbuktu which will be on view at GLG for this iteration of Fiber Reimagined. The closing reception for the show will be TOMORROW, SEPTEMBER 4th 5 - 8 pm, with artist talks commencing at 6:30.

In collaboration with @fiberartnow , the popular exhibition returns for its fourth year at Gravers Lane Gallery. Innovative contemporary art created from fiber, recycled, and repurposed mixed media will be on display at GLG until September 5th, 2026. Congratulations to the artists, and thank you to everyone who came out in support of the fiber art community. It has been a very long hot summer here in Southwest Florida. I’ve spent much of my time working on a large project that has required hours and hours of very monotonous weaving. This month I started breaking up the time with some playful brooches. Brooches are my favorite format for testing out ideas and generating new ones. I’m very excited to have my work in the National Basketry Organization’s Every 1 2026 On Line Exhibition. To have my work alongside the works of so many artist/craftsmen who I greatly admire is wonderful, and so much of the work is both beautiful and highly innovative! I’ve given myself permission over the summer months to get back to some of the other creative pursuits that I’ve had on the back burner for some time now. As I’ve been cleaning and reorganizing my studio I’ve come across a number of underpaintings; good starts that had either been done on site plein air or as demos when I was teaching. This one really resonated with me….so I spent time considering it all week. I had no photo reference, but I know it had been in coastal Maine along the cliffs in Lubec, Maine or Campobello Island many years ago. Today I gathered up my courage and began to work on it. ( it has been close to two years since I’ve painted!) . It’s the first time I’ve ever painted from memory, and I wanted to speak simply and judiciously finesse the underpainting. I’m so happy with the result and I feel like I climbed Everest in conquering and getting past the trepidation that I had after not painting for so long!
