Creativity isn’t about the price tag. 🎨 Remember, art is an expression, not an expense!”

5 Budget-Friendly Art Tips:

	1.	Utilize Flat Surfaces: Don’t limit yourself to traditional canvases. Use any flat surface you find - old wood, cardboard, or even fabric can be your canvas.
	2.	Discount Store Supplies: Stores like Ross and TJ Maxx offer affordable canvases and paints. Keep an eye out for deals!
	3.	DIY Your Own Art Supplies: Make your own paint, brushes, or stamps using household items. A potato can become a stamp, and a hairpin can turn into a unique brush!
	4.	Digital Art: Use free digital art platforms and apps. It’s an eco-friendly and cost-effective option.
	5.	Reuse & Recycle: Before throwing something away, think about how it can be incorporated into your art. Old magazines, broken jewelry, or fabric scraps can add unique textures and elements to your creations.

“Bart Simpson”

Was aiming for a smooth reveal of my new Bart Simpson masterpiece, but my skateboard decided on a grand exit instead. That ‘oh no’ face? That’s my most genuine reaction post-fence collision. Here’s to unexpected plot twists and hoping my neighbor’s yard is okay! 🛹💥

NEW YORK CITY, YOU’RE INVITED! 🗽🎨

I’ve been making these one-of-one invitations by hand for my first solo art exhibition, ECHO WORLD. But the truth is, I wish I could personally invite every single person in this city.

So consider this your invitation.

On October 23rd, I’m opening the doors to Echo World at LISTA Studios. A world I’ve been building through paintings, characters, and stories about what it means to be human.

I want to meet new people, connect with other artists, share stories, and bring together people from all walks of life. You don’t have to know anything about art to come. Just bring yourself and a little curiosity.

And I have two special invitations.

To my Art Students League of New York community: @aslnyc , I’d love to see my fellow students, instructors, and everyone who’s been part of my journey come out and celebrate this milestone with me. The League has played a meaningful role in my growth as an artist, and it would mean so much to have that community in the room.

To Mayor Mamdani: zohrankmamdani, I’d love to personally invite you to experience Echo World and see what emerging artists in this city are creating. New York is full of creative people chasing something bigger, and I’m proud to be one of them.

Now NYC, I need your help.

Share this video. Tag your friends, your favorite artists, galleries, and anyone who believes in supporting creativity. Help me get this invitation into rooms and communities I’ve never reached before.

ECHO WORLD — My First Solo Exhibition

What happens when you give yourself the space to create?

Over the past few months, I’ve been fortunate enough to spend my days doing something I truly love. Making art, experimenting, learning, and continuing to build Echo World.

I’m incredibly grateful for LISTA Studios and the community they’ve created. Having access to the space, tools, classes, and people who encourage creativity has meant so much to my growth as an artist.

And now I get to share what I’ve been working on.

I’m excited to invite you all to my first solo exhibition, ECHO WORLD, @lista_studios in New York City.

This exhibition is more than just a collection of paintings. It’s an invitation into my world, the characters I’ve created, and the experiences that have shaped my journey.

I still have so much I want to create, learn, and experience. But I’m also learning to slow down and celebrate the moments along the way. This is one of those moments.

38. Another year to create.

I’m sitting on the subway headed to the studio on my birthday, trying not to cry. I haven’t felt this emotional in a long fucking time.

I spend most holidays alone. Honestly, most days alone. I’m either too busy creating or I’ve spent all my money on art. My family misses me. My friends miss me. And I miss them too.

I call it my addiction. There’s something about bringing an idea to life that I just can’t get enough of.

A year and a half ago, I moved to NYC and completely changed my life. I went from making the most money I’d ever made in corporate fashion to sometimes struggling to afford the subway.

And yet, here I am, spending my birthday doing exactly what I’ve always wanted to do.

I’m grateful to @lista_studios for giving me the space, support and opportunity to present my first solo exhibition in NYC. On October 23, I’ll finally get to share Echo World, a collection I’ve poured so much of myself into.

I’m learning to appreciate what I have instead of constantly thinking about what I haven’t accomplished.

I’m grateful for my family, my friends and every incredible person I’ve met along the way. Even when I’m not around, your love is never forgotten.

I’m even grateful for the financial support that came from my military injury. The military taught me loneliness and isolation, but that monthly paycheck has helped me pursue my art. Life is fucking strange sometimes.

I’m grateful I made it to 38. Another year to keep creating.

October 23. Echo World at Lista Studio. Three weeks of sharing what I’ve been working toward. My social anxiety will probably be through the roof, but I can’t wait to see everyone who can make it.

Thank you for celebrating another year with me.

See you oct.

FAFO: Ceramic Vinyl Crate

Some ideas start with a sketch. This one started with a problem.

I needed somewhere to put my records, so I made it.

That’s becoming one of my favorite parts of being an artist—realizing I don’t have to wait for the thing I want to exist. I can experiment, make mistakes, learn, and create my own version of it.

A milk crate. A piece of nostalgia. A functional ceramic object. A little piece of Echo World.

I have no idea where this experiment goes next.

That’s kind of the point.

Another project created because I can’t stop FAFO’ing.

I grew up collecting Pokémon cards, so trading cards have always been familiar to me. Then one day I saw an ad from @oneofonehq and thought… fuck it, I want to make my own.

I ordered some blank cards, painted the backgrounds with acrylic, grabbed my @posca_usa markers and just started doodling.

No real plan. Just seeing what would happen.

Eventually I ended up with 15 one-of-one cards that I felt were worth sharing.

Are they exactly what I imagined? No.

I really wanted more control over the holographic elements and there are already things I know I’d do differently next time. But I think that’s kind of the point.

FAFO isn’t about knowing something is going to work before you start. It’s giving an idea a chance to exist.

Now I have 15 cards that didn’t exist before, a better understanding of how I’d make the next ones, and probably another obsession.

So if you have an idea sitting in your head, FAFO with it. You never know what might come out of it.

I had a dream about a fish plate. So I made it.

That’s really where this started. An idea that existed in my head that I eventually decided was worth trying to make real.

I didn’t know exactly how it was going to turn out. I just knew I wanted to see what would happen.

That’s a lot of what FAFO means to me. Try the thing. Make the prototype. Fuck it up. Learn something. Try again. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.

This time it worked.

And now this weird little thing I saw in a dream is something I can actually hold in my hands.

I think that’s one of my favorite parts about being an artist. Slowly building a life where the things in my head get to exist in the real world.

What if it works out? — FAFO

I started working on this piece in my printmaking class at the Art Students League but never got the chance to finish it.

The idea was simple: Echo holds a sign, and with each frame a new word appears until eventually it reads:

WHAT IF IT WORKS OUT?

I make art every day, and I constantly have to remind myself of this.

What if the idea works?
What if I’m not good at it?
What if I stop worrying about making it perfect and just make the fucking thing?

Perfectionism and doubt have killed more of my ideas than failure ever has.

That’s what FAFO has become for me. Not being reckless. Not pretending I’m not afraid. It’s being curious enough to try anyway.

I never finished this animation, but someday I will make another animated short. I’ve done it before, and I know animation will cross my path again.

Until then, I want to invite you to FAFO with the things you keep thinking about. The thing you want to make. The place you want to go. The idea you’re scared to share.

We get one life.

When I look back at mine, I don’t want to wonder what would’ve happened.

I want to be able to say, “Yeah, I did that.”

I actually got to live my life.

What if it works out?

Still thinking about the Red Dot Show yesterday.

I received so much love and support, and I really needed that. It reminded me why I keep making things and why sharing the work is just as important as creating it.

I’m really excited about this next chapter and continuing to see how far I can push my work. Lately that’s meant spending more time with ceramics, experimenting with new forms, and figuring out how the world I’ve been building can exist beyond paintings.

I don’t know exactly where all of it is going yet, but I think that’s part of what makes creating exciting. I’m just going to keep making, experimenting, sharing, and seeing what happens.

Speaking of experimenting…

Should I add FAFO to the lighter at the end?

Why is my scoreboard still zero?

I keep thinking about the saying, you miss every shot you don’t take.

I picture Echo at the free throw line taking a shot… with no ball in his hands.

Next to him is a basket full of basketballs.

The scoreboard reads:

ECHO — 0
LIFE — ∞

But that’s not really true.

I’ve taken a lot of shots. I’ve made perfume, candles, designed for brands like Alo, started my own clothing brand, made art, helped make films, moved across the country three times…

So why does my scoreboard still feel like zero?

Watching my friend @charlie write his book and talk about #WinningStreak made me realize something:

I don’t celebrate my wins.

I accomplish something I once dreamed about and immediately ask, what’s next?

Painting sold? What’s next.
Got into a show? What’s next.
Won something? What’s next.

Maybe my scoreboard isn’t zero.

Maybe I just haven’t been counting my points.

But there’s another side to it.

I’m private with what I create. I try not to take up too much space. Then I wonder why I’m not in more galleries.

It’s not because they rejected me.

I never asked.

I’ve been shooting crumpled-up ideas into the wastebasket when I should’ve been taking shots on the main court.

So this is what I’m practicing now:

Celebrate the shots that go in.
Take bigger shots.
Get rejected.
Ask again.
Show the work.
Take up some fucking space.

You only really fail when you never pick up the ball.

I spend about 3–5 hours of my day on the NYC subway.

At first, I looked at that time as time lost. Lately, I’ve been trying to look at it differently.

Time to slow down.
Time to think.
Time to make something.

So I started drawing on the train.

At least one drawing a day, usually more. Some become paintings. Some introduce new characters. Some are just ideas that needed somewhere to exist.

This one is Alex.

He’s part of Echo World—a guide that tends to show up when Echo needs a little direction.

I want to start sharing more of these drawings because this is a huge part of my actual practice.

For me it starts with a blank postcard, a POSCA marker, and a long train ride through New York.

Trying to turn the time I have into the life I want.
