Oh man, THIS WEDNESDAY is my debut storytelling exhibition - Liberating the Labyrinth🌀

Liberating the Labyrinth is the pull of the rips and tides of coming up for air to go right back into the depths of identity, grief, loss, whilst building up ripples of joy and embracing our humanity. It’s life and death intertwined as we come into ourselves - shedding and remembering what and who molds us to where we are right now. This storytelling exhibit bears witness to the presence and raw process of growing our authentic selves. We are viscerally and joyously made. Embrace all of you to become you.

📆 Wednesday, October 29th
🕰️ 7PM - 830PM
📍Broadalbin Library

The show opening will feature;
🌀 My first live storytelling performance in a decade!
🌀 Free snacks & zero-proof beverages!
🌀 Curated exhibit of 10 pieces including interwoven written, collage, and gelli printed art on display.
🌀 This is a space that is queer, gender expansive, disabled, and neurodivergent forward!
🌀 This is an intergenerational event & youth + families are very encouraged to attend!

Also, a deep thank you for Suzan and Broadalbin Library for advocating for the Saratoga Arts Grant that makes this exhibition and my youth program possible! 🫂

I hope to see you for my debut as the writer, artist, storyteller and educator my younger self always knew but took me a bit to remember🌈

today reminded me that your reality is to be created, not prescribed.

queer creative futures lived in my journal, my mind, and in conversations with my loved ones for five years.

five years the process was imagining, planning, envisioning, and refusing to listen to the “not yet” or “not now”

there is every voice right now telling you no. not like that. don’t be queer. dont be trans. don’t be autistic. don’t be neurodivergent. don’t be fat. dont be Black. don’t be poor. don’t be an immigrant. don’t make anyone uncomfortable. don’t be anything but what the prescription of the american white cis evangelical life is supposed to be. well, fuck that.

the future is every moment we decide to defy the odds against us. this is one of those moments. if we do anything in this life, lest it be in creating the future we deserve. this program is the voice i’ve silenced to try to contort myself. listen to me. defiance lives within the small moments our reality meets what we were told couldn’t exist. 🌀 taken in Context Collective Troy by @creatrixcyren

little life lessons from parker 2 at camp unirondack during my second artist in residency 🫂

🌀be the kindest to yourself, and then others
🌀when the bees come, invite them to pollenate
🌀 listen closely to the music in the morning, the symphony of silence has an answer
🌀 as long as you are always learning, you will always remain humble
🌀 do not dim your light before it can be ignited
🌀 joy lives in the doing - honor that you are the doer
🌀make decisions by sitting at the table with every age before you - what do they have to say?
🌀 allow life to get better - you can weather every storm but you also can handle the sun, the moon, the stars

thank you for the medicine.
thank you for warmest welcome back.
thank you for holding my anxieties.
thank you for the intentional chats.
thank you for the silliness.
thank you for creating the futures
we deserve right here, right now.

“We carry our stories on our backs and wear our hearts on our sleeves. We are the infinite energies. Others see us as the ones who may not get very far, but we know that they are wrong. We have the world in our hands.” - me, circa 2012

Sometimes you are forced to listen to yourself as a practice in humility. These nine months have been a ritual of shedding what hasn’t fit & leaving it to rest.

Who was I without approval? Who am I without permission? What do I want in this life that is a gift to myself? What will I want this life to mean?

I am a creative community weaver. I am a lightening bolt that demands honesty. I am a servant to actualizing a future where no one, including myself, is without. I am firm in my word and tethered to my values. I am a writer. I am an artist. I am creating the future I desire because even in this timeline - I can create a microcosm of what the world will be.

I have a lot to live for despite being in battle with the labyrinth that wants to consume me. It’s been healing to realize assimilation is not safety but a mask that buries us deeper in self hatred and shame.

So, all to say - despite being in the trenches - some deep, years long manifestations have come to fruition that I feel ready to share 🫂

🧿 Queer Creative Futures - A Youth Creative Mentorship via @abiggaymarket received partial funding from the Arts Thrive & Grow Grant via Arts Center of the Capital Region! Official post coming soon + a fundraiser to get the rest we need to run🌀

🧿 I have my first solo visual storytelling exhibit at Broadalbin Library on Weds, October 29th from 7PM - 8:30PM. More details to come🌀

🧿 @athirdspace518 has a potential home for a smaller version of the concept that will open probably Fall! This announcement & community asks to get us open will come next month 🌀

🧿 I have lots of writing projects - including a mail-in storytelling project - plus going to start selling my collage, print making and ceramic story jewelry pieces at @creatrixcyren ! 🌀

Lots of firsts for me & still finding stability within the creative entrepreneurial world but I am feeling more myself than ever🫂 ok love you bye! taken in Just Doing My Best by @creatrixcyren
