No more precious time begging to be seen, be heard, be in control, be perfect, be containable, be loved, be believed. Thank god that chapter has come to rest. how lucky am i to have two homes in this lifetime?

another artist in residence in the books at my other home, @unirondack 🫂

i spent 5 lovely, joy-filled, and sentimental days teaching storytelling, gelli printing, collage, and recycled printmaking as archival practices. With 6 curious, wicked smart, and kind humans, together, we sang showtunes, 2000’s emo punk classics, and shared our deepest vulnerabilities.

every time i come to camp, i learn even more about myself, this world, and how to be in community. that’s the magic of this space. this time, i learned again to really listen. to welcome back every version of you at every age and listen to what they have to say to guide you and remember who you are.

Yesterday was monumental. I entered the other side of a portal I’ve been walking through. My gratitude transcends this body. I am so so lucky to be surrounded by powerful, community oriented, wicked smart and thoughtful collaborators turned family. Wow!

I made a speech that I want to share the core message of here. Thank you for witnessing🫂

“What is beautiful about our community is that we hold these complexities with beauty and grace just as much as the grief and a deep love that only queer and gender expansive people can hold. It’s a privilege to be, in this lifetime, wonderfully made exactly how we are despite the horrors. Despite how much we are told to become smaller, to assimilate, to oppress ourselves first before the powers at be do first. And for us to continuously have a history of those before us that paved this tangible, beautiful complexity for us to wield into our power, and collective transformative power.

A Big Gay Market is one of those manifestations of this universal truth. It’s forging the futures that we deserve - right now. Every market is carefully and thoughtfully created to be a space where every person can arrive just as they are and be celebrated, held in their most authentic selves and where we take care of each other all the while transferring wealth locally to each other. It’s what the future can look like. Yet, we have been denied can exist because of capitalism and all that wields itself to uphold our varying degrees of oppression and keeps up isolated and therefore makes a future where we all thrive to seem impossible. But this is a space that rebukes this made up reality. This is a space that resists. That is hope in action.

It’s a privilege to be trusted by leaders like Tandra, and every person that makes up the powerhouse of IOOV to collaborate and do this future building with is everything. To work with leaders like Cheyenne to wield these queer futures right now doesn’t ever forsake me. I do not take this for granted. The gratitude and the lifelong learning that goes into this work doesn’t end here with this award - it endures and continues. I have known you all, this space, for a lifetime. I’ve seen you all before in my wildest dreams. It is a privilege to witness all of your beauty, your whimsy, your presence, and your fullest selves. I can’t and will not ever take these days, you all, for granted. Thank you. Thank you for the trust it takes to build the futures we deserve. 🫂

With that being said - I have two announcements I’ve been holding close to my chest, bubbling over, ready to share out!

First, A Big Gay Market is officially becoming a nonprofit by the end of the year! We have been functioning like a nonprofit since our inception, so it was time to finally make it official. This fall, Cheyenne Clarke, Frankie Sanvidge, and I will embark on intentionally building the inaugural Board slate. Then, by January 2027, we will be announcing our 5-year anniversary Annual Fund campaign to support our creative programming, professional development arm, and scholarship program for creatives of the global majority.

Finally, I have accepted a role with the Empire Justice Center as their first Communications and Public Relations Manager! I have always admired the critical work they do for the most marginalized New Yorkers. Even more, my heart has been calling to do work again that is working 1:1 with those facing civil to legal challenges and teaching them how to tell the story of their lived experiences to decision-makers and the public. I’m very excited for this role! I will miss the Albany Symphony deeply, especially my colleagues, and have learned so much that I am bringing directly to ABGM as we grow. I start in August!

As I have been reflecting, I have not felt this sense of peace since May 2022 at my first time volunteering at Camp Unirondack’s Queer Youth Advocacy Retreat. It’s been truly a hard, transformative, deeply devastating, and healing four years, but that’s the beauty of living a full life. Here for more levity despite the horrors and doing the work that matters the most in this lifetime. 🫂 taken in PEACE by @cyrenromeo

this is a reminder to stay alive even if you didn’t see yourself getting this far.

you’re meant for more than this world can ever imagine therefore you have the beautiful challenge to create the worlds we want to live in. despite the odds. despite the tragedies we were sold. despite the serpents disguised as sermons. despite everything we were ever taught to make ourselves smaller because everyone feared what it meant if we became larger, louder, more visible. god forbid we, in all our queerness and weirdness and defiance, be happy. be joyful.

there are many hours in our days right now that are in darkness. i rather be fighting my way through to make four hours every month be the light. keep going. we need you. taken in The Future by @cyrenromeo

i have missed myself so much lately. i see them in third person. i want them back.

in therapy, i am working on managing my expectations. and my devastations. my devastation towards not meeting my own expectations. this winter, froze me over. the slivers of spring, thaw me out. my worries, burrow me back in. am i gone, again? am I wasting time, again? when I know more than anyone how precious every moment is?

what whispers back is as long as you allowing yourself to be human, you are living. there is no enough, it just is. lucky to have chosen ones that open the door for me to come back in. i’m getting better at unlocking the door, too. 🫂 taken in Neptune by @cyrenromeo

sure, for me, the new year begins in the spring and i’m still burrowing a bit. but, wanted to archive a few significant parts of 2025 here.

✨ went full time with @abiggaymarket which was scary bc i have lots of financial trauma but we have grown exponentially despite my fear
✨ healed being fired from a job I poured my heart and soul into because I just wanted to be accepted as an autistic person.
✨ embraced and allowed myself to trust in new friendships and poured into those who have been here all along emotionally and through many shared meals (mostly chicken cajun pasta)
✨ went back to Camp Unirondack after a year away as a mentor and Artist in Residence
✨ celebrated one year of having Meeko join Eliza and I’s little family
✨ intentionally dated myself and stayed single and healed again my desire to be chosen
✨ mourned but also celebrated and honored the life of my dad after ten years of him no longer being on earth
✨ chose to accept a part time job that is slowly healing some deep “traditional” job wounds
✨tbh was very sad and depressed on and off - went off anti-anxiety meds to just an ssri for depression and now transitioning to another new ssri for both again
✨ did my first art exhibit and shared my writing out loud for the first time in a decade
✨ screamed a lot in my car and cried listening to hayley williams and florence and lorde on loop
✨ started talking to my mom again after years apart while also accepting the relationship we will have
✨ being a little braver talking about sa trauma & removed myself entirely from a space that was regressing me significantly

lots to remember and i’ve been wanting to be better at documenting what’s really happening. sometimes i tend to wax poetic here because it makes the hard times and good times easier to digest. i want in 2026 to balance being open here and in my writing for myself. i want to finally publish the stories that got me here. let’s see what happens 🫂 taken in Right Here by @cyrenromeo
