🍁🥾Autumn in Crete: when every trail path double-checks as a feast

Loving every season here means learning the subtle rhythm of the island. Right now, it’s all about the rustle of dry leaves underfoot, golden sunlight on the table and the quiet satisfaction of gathering nature’s little rewards along the way. 🌰✨ by @cretefourseasons

When the island exhale begins… 🌊✨

The summer crowds fade, the air cools, but the sea keeps its warmth. Soft sandy beach with the Mountains standing quiet in the background—this is the side of Crete that stays with you long after peak season ends.
Four seasons, one endless coastline. 🌿

📍Tripiti beach.Between the mountains and the sea lies Tripiti Gorge — small in size, but impressive in character, before the rugged landscape of southern Crete opens up to the endless Libyan Sea.
Following the coastline east we discover Kartarti Beach, hidden inside a small gorge. Turquoise waters, dramatic cliffs and absolute tranquillity makes it feel like a secret corner of Crete.
The coastal hike continues through the wild and untouched landscape of the Asterousia mountains, with the sea constantly beside us.
And finally, we reach Salamia Beach — where the imposing Asterousia Mountains meet the crystal-clear waters.
Wild mountains, hidden beaches and crystal-clear waters are the rewards of the hike. #tripitibeach #asterousia #hikecrete #explorecrete #suunto by @cretefourseasons

Unexpected guardian of the trail! 🦀🤺 A short crabby story….
Stopped me dead in my tracks— last thing I expected to see was a crustacean 🦀 sitting squarely in the middle of a dry dirt trail, a good half a kilometer up from the nearest stream.
I looked at him and he looked at me both thinking what to do about this unexpected encounter I’m sure!
‘You’re in dodgy territory mate, the birds of prey are circling already! You might as well be waving a red flag to those raptors 🦅’
So, with a little resistance on his part I decided to give him a lift back to the safety of the stream bank 🦀 🤺
Either I saved his day or I really pissed him off and he’s currently trudging his way right back up to that exact spot to finish whatever super important mission he was on this morning 🤔
Good intentions my crabby friend! 🤗

A beautiful hike through the heart of Crete, starting from Ano Asites and passing through the impressive Siderospilies, before the picturesque chapel of Agios Panteleimonas #suunto #hikingcrete #asites #minoancivilization by @cretefourseasons

📍Trafoula Gorge

Hidden on the dramatic southern coast of Crete, Trafoula Gorge is a place where nature feels raw, wild, and untouched. The trail winds through rugged mountains and rocky landscapes before opening up to spectacular views of the Libyan Sea.

The journey through the gorge is full of contrasts — steep cliffs, dry Cretan vegetation, natural rock formations, and the deep blue sea in the distance. Every turn of the trail reveals a different side of the landscape, making the hike feel like a true exploration.

At the end, the spectacular coastline and secluded Trafoula Beach create the perfect reward after the hike. Surrounded by towering cliffs and crystal-clear waters, it is a place where you can escape the crowds and simply enjoy the power and beauty of nature.

Trafoula is more than a hiking trail. It is a wild Cretan adventure, where the mountains meet the sea. #trafoulasgorge #southcrete #explorecrete #suunto #hikingcrete by @cretefourseasons

On southeastern Crete this time, starting from the beautiful seaside village of Myrtos and heading inland to the traditional village of Mythoi. Surrounded by olive groves, citrus orchards, and breathtaking mountain scenery, the route offers a perfect blend of nature, culture, and tranquility.
From Mythoi, continue to the spectacular Sarakina Gorge, famous for its narrow rock passages, towering cliffs, and crystal-clear pools that flow during much of the year. Walking through the gorge is an unforgettable adventure, with impressive rock formations shaped by water over thousands of years.
This hike combines coastal beauty, authentic Cretan villages, and one of the island's most fascinating gorges, making it an ideal experience for nature lovers, hikers, and photographers looking to discover the wild side of Crete. by @cretefourseasons
