Thank you to the artists, writers, partners and friends who joined us to celebrate 25 years of the Embassy’s hidden gem – our garage artworks.

In 2000 and 2001, young artists practicing a new, emerging artform were invited to leave their mark on the space. The only condition? The project needed to include both British and Swiss artists.

Preserved in its original setting, the graffiti-covered garage remains a rare snapshot of a formative moment in graffiti culture.

To mark the anniversary, several of the original graffiti writers and artists returned (Chu, Snug, Gosb), alongside a new arrival (Byer), creating new works in response to the space and its legacy today. There is no celebration without music and we are still buzzing after amazing performances by Miss B, YolanDa Brown OBE, Evita Koné, Kety Fusco and Lakiko.

And with the original spirit of collaboration in mind, it was a pleasure to work with the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation, Pro Helvetia and Presence Switzerland on the “Garage Sessions”, three nights of events celebrating UK-Swiss excellence across visual art, music and culture.

The story continues.

“With this risk-taking we now have something really special. For me it also reflected a bit on Switzerland. Sometimes we are considered boring or conservative. But we are also very vocal for new ideas, and this shows we are a very innovative country”, says the Swiss Ambassador to the UK, Dominique Paravicini.

25 years ago, young graffiti artists were given carte blanche to create works in the Embassy garage. We celebrated in art and music this legacy. Stay tuned for more insights into the Swiss Embassy Garage Sessions.

Thanks to Byer, Chu, Gosb and Snug for the stunning new artworks.

For now, dive into the article signed by Ellie McDonald for The Times and The Sunday Times.

on Thursday 8th October at 6 – 8pm Auto Italia will host Edelweiss Pirates, a collaborative workshop and installation series with artists Brutus Labiche and Ajahee Sekkm-Miles.

Responding to the rise of far-right rhetoric and the increasing use of national symbols to promote exclusionary ideas of identity and belonging, this session invites participants to reclaim and reinterpret national symbols through collage. Using UK tabloids, personal archives and the Auto Italia archive, participants will rework images and texts to create new interpretations of national symbols and narrative that question how national identity is represented.

The project takes its name from the Edelweiss Pirates, informal youth groups who resisted the rigidity of Nazi ideology. Their refusal to conform, and their creation of their own rituals and forms of belonging, provides a starting point for the workshop, which considers how identity can be challenged and reimagined.

Edelweiss Pirates is an ongoing series in which each workshop becomes a temporary installation and contributes to a growing transnational archive. These workshops explore how identity is lived, constructed and redefined across communities and borders.

Originally developed in Switzerland, this will be the first Edelweiss Pirates workshop in the UK.

This free event will take place at Auto Italia. To book, follow @autoitalialondon or email info@artworkassociation.org

The Middle Absent

by Ilyas Kassam and Amanda Camenisch

*Exhibition*: 1-3 October, 12:00 - 18:00

The exhibition brings together one of Kassam’s large-scale calligraphic paintings and two of Camenisch’s sculptures. At the heart of the exhibition is the idea of remembering: a way of allowing something held in experience to find form through the act of making.

*Live Sound Activation*: 3 October, 2pm - 3pm

A one-off, live improvisatory score by Robert Stillman which responds to the artworks, the themes and the space that surround them.

Venue: Swiss Church London, 79 Endell St, WC2H 9DY

Sonica Glasgow 2026 is now on, featuring three works by Swiss creatives working across interdisciplinary arts, sound and technology.

At Pollok House, Geneva-based Ban Lei’s 153 Returning Birds (24 September–4 October) invites visitors to “play” a flock of responsive birds, creating a gentle, evolving constellation of sound.

At Tramway, Robert Maqueda & Structurals’ Air (2 October) brings drum machines to life without direct contact, using air, light and movement to blur the boundaries between performer, instrument and machine.

Also at Tramway, Marie Delprat and Tom Lane’s I Dreamt of Fire (4 October) transforms the waiting room into an unsettling audiovisual environment of electronic sound, surveillance screens and anticipation.

Last night in Edinburgh, Switzerland and Scotland came together through opera.

We were delighted to celebrate the UK premiere of Zurich Opera House’s acclaimed production of Verdi’s A Masked Ball at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Bringing together artists, cultural leaders and supporters from both countries, the evening highlighted the power of international collaboration and artistic exchange. The production is part of the Festival’s 2026 programme and marks a special collaboration between one of Europe’s leading opera houses and one of the world’s greatest arts festivals.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the artists, creative teams and partnerships that make moments like this possible.

With special thanks to UBS, Edelweiss, Ferring and the Swiss Cultural Fund UK for helping make this special occasion possible.

Verdi’s A Masked Ball is on 27 & 29–30 August with two stellar casts, conducting by the wonderful @gianandreanoseda, and a narrative laced with desire, treachery and political peril.
