I am so happy with how this print came out. This was definitely my ah-ha moment in my desire to switch back to traditional after many years of working digitally—without losing the gains I've made by working in the digital medium. I was able to take my pencil drawing, scan it, and then colour correct to get the same depth that I work with in my digital pieces. Sometimes, if you're lucky, the trees will remember you.

I found what -I think- is a Black Locust tree in High Park. She was so gnarled and dark and lovely, and what I thought was going to be a quick sketch to decompress from having to be on my computer all day turned into a several day obsession with all her beautiful bark patterns.

I feel like this tree had a hand in bringing me back to my own traditional drawing roots. Once I finished drawing, I scanned her and made some colour edits to get my characteristic dark purple-black that I use on my digital work. Then I printed my first test print translating my pencil drawing to my art print style. I'm so happy with how she turned out.
