Culture Shock San Diego at @ultimatebrawl 2026 😎

Thank you @909dt for your hospitality and for putting together a great competition. The last time CSSD appeared at Ultimate Brawl was in 2014, so it was an honor to be back with a new generation and share the stage with the so many wonderful dancers!

We pushed ourselves to show a different side of the troupe in comparison to our last set. From new choreographers, up and coming leadership, DIY custom costumes, and just overall training we really came together as a team to make this all happen. The road to Ultimate Brawl was a lot of fun. Next stop @bustagroovesd!

This road to @bustagroove has us reflecting back on where we, the current generation of the troupe started. @erajames_: I’m so proud of these individuals and their dedication and hardwork. Their growth shows every time we step into the space together, not only in dance but as people, community members and leaders.

Thank you @mtranphotography for capturing moments during our auditions this past January.

Maneater at Sweet Escape 2026 hosted by @sweetdreamsdance

I’m so incredibly honored to have been given the opportunity to lead a set for @cssdtroupe . I want to express immense gratitude to my director @erajenae for trusting me and giving guidance throughout this process. This set was inspired by all of the different representations of femininity that has inspired me to embrace my own. I’m so thankful for my team for giving me their all and absolutely killing it. It’s still crazy to say that we completed this set in 2 weeks with many adjustments on the way. All the love to these talented individuals I had the honor to share the stage with❤️

Directed by: Emily Pham and Era Molina @erajenae
Choreographed by: Emily Pham | Sharwin Sese @kaywellnearsese | Dylan Tibbetts @dylantibbettss | Era Molina

“Dance has always been my home…”
Thank you Anna for reminding us that the truth is in loving what we do and loving the people we get to do it with. Your legacy and impact will continue to be felt for generations to come. This one was for you!

Have you seen the full video yet? Link in our Bio. We built this set in collaboration as a troupe and were so glad we did! Working together to build the concepts, theme, costumes, mix, video and every moment was a collective culmination of the hardwork we’ve been putting into ourselves and each other. We thankful to have learned so much and have gotten closer through all the ups and downs. Culture Shock is timeless! by @cssdtroupe

One more throwback post before Bustagroove!

Viva Las Vegas! Last December we had the joy of sharing the stage with our @cultureshocklasvegas Fam for their showcase “Takin’ it to the Streets”. We’re thankful we got to spend time with @aftashocksd, connect with some of our Las Vegas fam, and even reconnect with @cssdalumni who are now out in Las Vegas. It definitely one for the books! by @cssdtroupe

We can’t wait to hit the @bustagroovesd stage this weekend! This journey hasn’t been an easy one but it’s definitely been a lot of fun and continues to teach us and help us evolve.

It started as an idea for a particular music artist medley that we’ve held onto since last fall. Over months of discussions it grew to multiple iterations of storylines, and eventually evolved to include a tribute for Anna Sarao, a pillar in our community, co-founder of Bustagroove/Body Rock, and former Director of Culture Shock San Diego gone way too soon.

For the current troupe, our experiences with Anna range from being teammates, friends, and dancers under her direction on the troupe, to taking class with her or even just hearing others stories about her. Regardless, we all still continue to feel her impact and share her legacy in who we’re growing to become as a new generation of the troupe.

We chose to also go a more collaboratively route in building this one. This meant tons of artistic team meetings, small group sessions, lab-ing, and so forth that involved all the troupe members to various degrees.

We’re really thankful for our organization’s leadership, from the directors to the board members, and their continuous support for making our visions and dreams become reality.

We hope you join us in our celebration of Anna, each other, and our global dance community at Bustagroove this Sunday! Check out their page for more details! @bustagroovesd

To our CSSD Alumni, please sound off in the comments with your stories of Anna, your time being on the troupe and any encouraging words you’d like to share. (ps. Alumni, DM us if you’re interested in attending our invite only preview night and we’ll send you the details)

As Anna would close out her Boba Talks saying, “time (boba) with your friends, is time well spent.” by @cssdtroupe
