Ever see a 20 pound common carp go airborne well after the hooks set? Well, here you go! @oli_h managed to capture this gem on my only off-day flooded woods carp outing so far this season. What a way to spend it!

That's @c0linsteadman with what is likely the largest fish I've put a client on, at 27.3 lbs. The average size generally goes down in the summer, I never say it's the best time to get a big one. But, there's always a couple of slobs that come out of the woodwork.

I said basically the same thing about carp a little while back but I'll reiterate... I pity the ones who throw in the towel early. If you want to see some of the coolest bass bites of the year you know how to find me.

Litylenchus crenatae ssp. mccannii.

You've heard of spotted lanternflies, and if you live in the Mid Atlantic you've probably already squashed some. They're very visible, and an easy target as an invasive species. You probably haven't seen much if any media coverage of the nematode that is either partially or wholly responsible for beech leaf disease. It's a devastating invasive that is guaranteed to change the way our forests and streams look forever, arguably far more so than lanternflies. You can't just squish it and feel good. This is a train that is coming and probably has no brakes. It illustrates what really matters in invasive species management... making sure they don't arrive in the first place. With introducing a non-native fungus being studied as an option for lanternfly control, I think that point needs to be made incrediblely clear. Introducing a new invasive in not a good way to control another. It almost always has unintended consequences, and even the most microscopic introduced species can rake over entire ecosystems. The chestnut blight is a fungus. Chytrid and SFD are fungus. American beeches are dying from a NEMATODE. And none of that would be happening if we controlled the initial points of contact. Teaching our kids to squish bugs and introducing new invasive species to control the old ones is only going to bite us in the butt.

We don't see many mirrors in the Connecticut River, this one was an absolute stunner! A completely perfect fish.

If you have an "it isn't over till I say it's over" attitude, you find out that fly carp "season" is never truly over.

@h.vinny1111 with a good looking common from last week. Hardtails giving you a hard time? Suffering the striper woahs? I haven't left the carp, bass, and pike yet and there are openings in my schedule if you want to get in on the fall bite!

Appreciate one of southern New England's only larger native "warmwater" predator fish. They're very cool. Much cooler than bass.
