The Connecticut Treasurer’s office is scheduled to meet this week with one of its investment funds, Global Infrastructure Partners, to discuss its involvement in deportation flights run by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

GIP has received investments of approximately $400 million from the state’s pension fund over the past six years.

One of GIP’s funds is part owner of Signature Aviation, a fixed-base operator (FBO) which supports private charter flights – including those run by ICE – providing aviation services such as boarding stairs, fuel and aircraft maintenance.

Local Republicans and Groton Independents are joining forces to reach more voters and promote cross-partisan cooperation in local governance.

On Oct. 16, the Town of Groton’s Republican Party and the Groton Independents — a political committee that acts as a local third party — held a meet and greet at The Fisherman Restaurant at Long Point.

The evening event drew candidates from both parties and residents keen to learn more about them. The event also acted as a fundraiser for victims of the Groton Towers apartment fire that left one dead and several injured earlier this month.

Police might face disciplinary action for failing to alert Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett of a looming raid by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that detained eight individuals.

Garrett joined more than a dozen immigration activists and town and state legislators in condemning ICE agents who raided Optimo Car Wash on Dixwell Avenue on Wednesday.

The raid shut down the business for at least the day. It wasn’t clear whether the eight detained people were car wash workers. One witness said one customer was among the detainees, according to Garrett.

More than 900 million gallons of sewage overflowed into the Connecticut River over the past year, a figure that appears alarming but represents only half the volume recorded the previous year.

Weather, not engineering, drove the decline.

New England is experiencing dry conditions after two years of above-average rainfall that strained aging sewer systems and triggered overflows. Infrastructure improvements over the past year may account for some reductions.

State officials warned Old Lyme in August that delaying a project to install sewers in its beach neighborhood risked millions of dollars in forgivable loans, but on Monday the Board Selectmen chose to schedule a referendum instead no earlier than January 13, significantly exceeding deadlines set by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

First Selectwoman Martha Shoemaker blamed the delay on ongoing negotiations for a draft cost-sharing agreement and procedural constraints tied to the election calendar.

In the past, kayaking the Housatonic River at Indian Well State Park meant bringing your own boat or hoping for a friendly loan.

But thanks to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Partnership in Parks initiative, launched in 2024, Milford’s Scoot & Paddle started renting paddleboards and open-top kayaks at Indian Well on weekends this summer.

DEEP launched the program along with the Connecticut Office of Outdoor Industry & Experiences last year to bring businesses together with state park tourists. The goal is to expand Connecticut’s $5.5 billion outdoor recreation industry and give people more reasons to visit state parks, said Jeff Shaw, a senior advisor at the office.
