Cheers to Charlie, the bravest man I’ve ever known. He always knew just what to say (or not say…he had his own language of sounds and facial expressions that said more than words ever could) and what to do to bring a smile to everyone’s face. I was incredibly lucky to be his daughter-in-law and to be welcomed into the Berberich clan with his fierce bear hug. He was made of iron - steadfast and true - with a heart of pure gold. His love language was acts of service - countless quiet actions that made it seem like everything just magically happened, but true to form, he never took credit as the magician. Rest easy, Charlie 💔 May your Miller Lite bottles be frosty and endless, and may your indomitable spirit guide us forever. Love ya. by @cthebliss

It’s been a year…

Of seeing your smile in the sunsets, feeling your fierce love in awe-inspiring landscapes, hearing your wisdom in birdsong, and missing you every moment of every day. Thank you for the surprise visits from your brilliant cardinal friends (red was always your favorite color) and of course, the ducks on your birthday. Thank you for making your presence known in your magic signs - we need them more than ever. “Grief is just love with no place to go”…but I prefer to think that my deep grief is your love radiating out into the world, touching more lives than you could ever imagine. Today, I celebrate the love you are, the love you gave, and the love you perpetuate.

My hero has crossed over 💔 My fiercely loving, quick-witted Daddy-O fittingly chose Valentine’s Day as his time to ascend 💚 He loved to show his love and was obsessed with greeting cards, so it’s only right he should pass on the quintessential Hallmark holiday 🙃 Throughout his long battle with Alzheimer’s, the one constant, the one piece of him that never slipped away, the one truth that I never doubted for a moment, was his deep, abiding love for us. Dementia takes away everything, bit by excruciating bit, but it cannot take away love.

My father was an extraordinary man, truly beloved by all who knew him. I don’t know anyone that ever had a harsh word to say about him, as he was the embodiment of kindness and generosity of spirit. I will never stop being proud that I am his daughter.

The past 3 months have been unbearably heartbreaking. I will save my anger and indignation at the suffering he needlessly endured for another time because for now, we are just so relieved he is at peace and that he was given the blessing of a peaceful passing.

I am so grateful for and humbled by the outpouring of love we’ve received the past few days - every word matters and means more than you know. Thank you.

We are celebrating my beautiful father’s beautiful life best lived this Spring, in honor of his rebirth and his love of nature and his garden. Details to come - if you’re reading this, you’re invited 💚
