We’ve got a perfect meet-up spot on campus!

How do I get to CUAG? Follow the path of the groundhog and the raven, with special guest appearance by commercial signage from “Joi T. Arcand: ᑳᐃᓯᓈᑿᐦᑭ ᐃᑘᐏᓇ kā-isinākwahki itwēwina: The Shape of Words”

The gallery’s bottom floor is transformed into a ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐍᐏᐣ / nēhiyawēwin (Plains Cree) urban utopia until December 13, 2026.

The path to the gallery includes two @carleton_u buildings that have been renamed alongside community members; Teraanga Commons (a Senegalese word from the Wolof language that means sharedness, civility and honour) and Nideyinàn, meaning “our heart” in Anishininaabemowin.

The steps to transformation are unfolding, but you can enter an Indigenous utopia today.

Neuroscience grad, mental health counsellor and now solo exhibition artist. ✨

@faisaomer_ ’s new exhibition “Threading Roots” at @cuartgallery explores Somali identity, survival and self-actualization through family portraits, textiles and poetry.

“The idea of this exhibition is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs,” says Omer, “starting with survival and getting to self-actualization at the end. It can also help people understand the in-between world of the Somali diaspora and what it means for us to be Canadian as well.”

Swipe for a preview of the exhibit ➡️

Our Intro to Street Art workshop with @miquemichelle was a big success!

We learned about the history of street art, and how artists created cities that belong to everyone. Then we practiced creating with stencils, vinyl and spray paint.

Thank you to everyone who joined!

My first solo exhibition, nearly two years in the making.

A tribute to my parents’ journey from Somalia to Canada. To the roots they left behind and the new ones they planted here.

A reflection on migration, sacrifice, resilience, and the generations that came after.

Drop your fine self into an entire urban Cree utopia at the opening party for Joi T. Arcand's exhibition, The Shape of Words, at @cuartgallery

Using familiar and nostalgic aesthetics to evoke shared cultural memory is one way the nēhiyaw (Cree) artist creates an alternate present and shared future. Neon; of course. Vintage; naturally. LARGE works; scale is in.

New works, including an immersive mural, will be revealed. Take a phone call in nēhiyawēwin at the vintage phone booth and arrange hot pink magnetic to create messages in syllabics. Celebrate being home to a beloved international artist and take ALL the photos at the vernissage on October 4, 2026, at 2pm.

This exhibition is made possible through generous support from the Terra Foundation for American Art.
