Introducing CKCU Office Jams 🪩 Join the CKCU crew and tune into Canada’s coolest live music show! Every few weeks, our favourite artists take over CKCU’s offices on the fifth floor of Carleton University to perform a few songs and chat with us. Our in-studio audience gets to see it all up close, but watching on YouTube is the next best thing! Our very first guests are Ottawa-based band Zaloum who dazzled us with some of their brand new funk-rock repertoire. Check out the full episode on YouTube (link in bio) and make sure to subscribe to stay up to date! Who will drop by next? Will they put together a special set just for us? Anything can happen on Office Jams, so keep an eye out for every new episode! Featured song: “Counterpart” by Zaloum CKCU Office Jams is made possible with the support of the Community Broadcasters Foundation of Canada. #CKCUOfficeJams #CampusRadio #CommunityRadio #OttawaMusic #LiveMusicSession

Neuroscience grad, mental health counsellor and now solo exhibition artist. ✨ @faisaomer_ ’s new exhibition “Threading Roots” at @cuartgallery explores Somali identity, survival and self-actualization through family portraits, textiles and poetry.   “The idea of this exhibition is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs,” says Omer, “starting with survival and getting to self-actualization at the end. It can also help people understand the in-between world of the Somali diaspora and what it means for us to be Canadian as well.”   Swipe for a preview of the exhibit ➡️   Link in bio for the full story. Beautiful things arrive by post: the German translation of Jennifer Evans’ 2023 book The Queer Art of History, which examines postwar and contemporary German history to argue for a practice of queer history that moves beyond bounded concepts and narratives of identity. The sixth chapter, Queere Verwandtschaft in gefährlichen Zeiten, includes an unprecedented deep read of my art practice and research methods, with a particular interest in how my concern for queer bonds of kinship propelled numerous projects since 2010. Jennifer’s queer approach to historiography actively eschews the cold distance some scholars keep from their subjects. Rather, Jennifer spent many years in active, generative discussion with me, travelling to attend my research events, securing funding for my artistic activities, and publishing numerous essays about my work. The chapter narrates this precious, longterm bond of kinship while also tracing a wide constellation of other artists and scholars who have contributed to both Jen and my artistic and intellectual becoming, among them Glyn Davis, Fiona Anderson, Liz Rosenfeld, Rosa von Praunheim, Heather Anderson, Mattias Duyves, and Gert Hekma. Even my grandmother, potter Rosalie Namer, makes a cameo appearance. Thank you, surhkamp and translator Elisa Barth for this handsome new edition.

Drop your fine self into an entire urban Cree utopia at the opening party for Joi T. Arcand's exhibition, The Shape of Words, at @cuartgallery Using familiar and nostalgic aesthetics to evoke shared cultural memory is one way the nēhiyaw (Cree) artist creates an alternate present and shared future. Neon; of course. Vintage; naturally. LARGE works; scale is in. New works, including an immersive mural, will be revealed. Take a phone call in nēhiyawēwin at the vintage phone booth and arrange hot pink magnetic to create messages in syllabics. Celebrate being home to a beloved international artist and take ALL the photos at the vernissage on October 4, 2026, at 2pm. This exhibition is made possible through generous support from the Terra Foundation for American Art. #nehiyaw #Indigenousart #Indigenouslanguages #retro @terraamericanart @cuartgallery @mycarletonu
