We would like to warmly invite you all to the next GROUND TALKS* lecture by Prof. Dr. Paola Viganò Friday, June 12, at 18:00, in the IfA Forum at the Architekturgebäude of TU Berlin at Ernst-Reuter-Platz.

Abstract. Paola Viganò will present her extensive professional and academic work, which combines research with the transformative design of urban spaces and territories, by approaching the project as knowledge producer. Drawing in particular on the vision her team has developed for the Greater Geneva focusing on soil and labor, Paola Viganò will address contemporary challenges in the socio-ecological transition of cities through the lens of the biopolitical garden.

*Ground Talks is a new lecture series co-promoted by cue and Habitat Unit that aims at exchanging diverse perspectives on the urban(ized) ground in relation to multiple territorial, social, and environmental challenges. Beers and (maybe) pretzels will be served before and after the lecture. by @cue.tu.berlin

POSITIONEN by Florian Hertweck
Thursday, 12.02.2026, 7pm at Room A151, IfA
A liberal-conservative approach to land has enabled cities to develop through expansion or demolition and new construction. Both paths to growth are no longer sustainable in view of climate change and resource scarcity. Repair, care and maintenance are the values of an era of ecological reproducibility in which the building sector overcomes its negative impact on the environment. But does this mean the end of architecture? Are we no longer able to build new, even though we are confronted with the greatest social challenge of our time – the housing scarcity?

Florian Hertweck is Professor of Architecture at the University of Luxembourg and co-founder of Less Yellow architecture urbanism. His work focuses on the socio-ecological transformation of urban landscapes. He curated the Luxembourg Pavilion at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale and co-curated The Great Repair exhibition in Berlin and Paris. His most important publications are Architecture on Common Ground. Positions and Models on the Question of Land (Lars Müller Publishers 2020), The Dialogic City. Berlin wird Berlin (w. A. Brandlhuber and T. Mayfried, Walther König Verlag, 2015), and the critical edition of O.M. Ungers‘ and Rem Koolhaas‘ The city in the city. Berlin: a green archipelago (w. S. Marot, Lars Müller Publishers, 2013). by @cue.tu.berlin

The future of the Tempelhofer Feld is back in Berlin’s urban and political debate, as the freiraum is being considered a building resource in face of the current housing crisis. In support of, and in collaboration with, Architects for Tempelhof (A4THF), we believe that alternative solutions exist to meet housing needs without consuming more precious soils. Addressing multiple challenges concerning climate change and more-than-human health, we explore in this Urban Design Studio an urban ecological approach to how not to build in the Feld, bringing qualitative and quantitative arguments of the socio-ecological values of the former airport field as a vibrant open space in the Berlin urban landscape.
