Rio feels endless.

Here we learned the history of the first favela in Brasil, Favela Tavares Bastos, better known as Morro da Providência - the name given to the hill it sits on in the late 19th century by soldiers returning from the War of Canudos who were promised housing but received none. They moved onto this land and made their own.

We visited Rios public and privately run Afro-Brazilian history museums. They hold the stories of the enslaved African people who were brought to Brazil. The tragedies of slavery are just as atrocious as anywhere else, but the resilience of the people feels more alive and more celebrated than in a place like Bermuda. The contrast can feel startling.

When the pics are just too good, it means the vibe is even better.

Everything in #Brasil is like a party. The #selaronsteps, or #escadariaselarón are a beautiful and massive mosaic masterpiece, and as remarkable as that is, in it's own right, it isn't the best part.

As one of the most visited spots in #riodejaneiro, it's absolutely packed with tourists and locals alike. As you climb the stairs and pass the hundreds of people trying to get a decent photo, Brazilian #bailefunk music bangs in the background. Capirinhas are handed out left and right. People are talk, sing, vibe and dance.

Brazil has, quite literally, the best markets that I've ever seen.

They call them "Feiras" or "fairs" in English.

Every weekend, local vendors show up and show out with hand crafted goods, clothing, bags, jewelry, skin care, records, foods and every other thing you can imagine.

These fairs are endless. Honestly, there's so much to see that deciding what to actually buy feels impossible because the expectation of finding something better just around the corner is real!

To be "fair" (see what I did there? 😂), many of the vendors sell the same t-shirts, jewelry, tote bags and souvenirs, but when you look beyond those tourist traps and discover what the locals are making for the locals, that's where the real magic happens.

I picked up some art work, a massive smudge stick, some soaps, and a few of the basics - obviously had to get the world famous Brazil t-shirt.

I'm already looking forward to going back, just for the shopping.

Grateful to have seen the places I've seen after coming from the place I come from.

This journey of life is full of ups and downs, but somehow, some way, it keeps getting better.

In this next phase of my life, I'm welcoming new things, good things, beautiful things. Affluence overflowing in every realm. Innerstanding that transcends ever challenge. Joy that flows like a river.

Still, the wealthier I become, the more I realize where life's true riches are actually found. It's in the connections we make, the lives we touch, the lives that touch us, the differences we make just being ourselves.

As I let go more and more of the expectations of the world, I become stronger in the knowledge of the man that I am. And as I count my blessings, I realize that I've been rich all along.

My magical, melanated munchkin turns 8 today.

I've been blessed with the stewardship of raising her from this vibrant little spark of life into a well-balanced, wise, loving, passionate, feminine woman.

There are so many variables to that. An adult is the product of the habits, patterns and beliefs they form as a child.

I'm always thinking about the future... What actions do I take now to cultivate a certain trait in her that will show when she's grown? What words should I say to her to ensure she sees the world in an empowering way? How do I, a man, teach her how to be a woman?

And on the other hand, even though planning for the future is important, we have to live in the present. What do I need to do to be present with her? How do I teach her to be present with herself and the people she cares about? How to I teach her about God and spiritually to ensure she has confidence in herself through her connection with The Divine? How do I ensure her character stays unique and alive while having to teach her the the correct way to be?

There are so many more questions and Lord knows I don't know all the answers!

But what I do know is that this little girl turned my life around and was the catalyst that allowed me to become the strong, wise, confident father and man that I am today.

Her bright smile, her chocolate brown skin, her beautiful and kind heart, her compassionate and empathetic spirit, her bravery, her curiosity, her boring little daughter jokes (these are even cornier than my dad jokes), her endless energy, our deep conversations, cute little kisses on the cheek, playing outside every afternoon (makes me soooo tired 😫), singing her to sleep as she laid on my chest every night for YEEEARS! those sweet little smirks while she's dreaming (talks in her sleep too lol) I couldn't ask for more.

Happy birthday to my cutie pie, my princess, my Coco puff, my chocolate chip, my best friend and my number one girl.

Daddy loves you baby girl.
