Almost like they are a small easily readable variation on blockbuster pieces. There is another layer of stickers in the public space that serve as entry-level advertisements for DIY businesses, bands, or projects. They are usually artfully designed and have a wide range of creative influences. Stickers Vol. 1 is from Tulsa's CULT LOVE SOUND TAPES, an art collective connected to various elements of the underground from coast-to-coast to overseas. There are esoteric bands, record stores, graffiti writers, and more, collaged on top of one another in a visually assaulting and cascading barrage of mind ads. The flat and almost glossy printed page is in direct conflict with the mental overload of reference points; each of them a new rabbithole into your new favorite band or label. The pages are equal parts loaded iconography and thick shiny black printing. The main images are from survival books; visual instructions on how to use a flame rod, direct sunlight, or re-use gunpowder to start a fire. Fire, arguably the force that once humans learned to manage it, allowed for a major technological and societal evolution. Fire is also severely destructive and spreads in all directions until the fuel is extinguished. The metaphors are abound.ENZYME surrounds these core images with 8-bit label maker icons that are assured to trigger associations. mailboxes, pencils and paper, money bags, spider webs, black cats, a pair of scissors, a book, a train, dolphins... a dark tunnel. LTD #3 is the third installment chronicling the adventures of the LTD Road Crew; AVOID pi, DROID 907, (and in this feature...) ZONO ngc, CHEVE tr, and more... There is a focus on freight trains; painting wholecars, riding on top, inside, and waiting and watching. Plenty of great stories ranging across first time riders, old timers, and bumming around Atlanta and New Orleans. Droid's "Forbidden Roadtrip" minizine within a zine is worth the cost of admission in itself. Its a full-color study on his 100+ wholecar a year missions with friends you've seen over the years and many new faces. Look and see MTN, Fishglue, Touch, Port, Ruiner, Fowl, Cash4, Mind Detergent, and more... Cheve has a nice 4-page story stapled to the back along with photos from a shared roadtrip up to the Upper Peninsula with Avoid; another story worth telling in detail (one day). Zono contributes a story of hiding in the deep Mississippi bayou and an escape from the bulls' prying eyes, as well as how to be best prepared for a week-long journey on the steel beast. Contemporary folklore for the masses.
