Our next feature is rolling in soon! Piecing Together, a solo show by Kiki Buccini, on display at Green Space Studios from October 12th to October 25th with our reception on Friday, October 16th, from 6-9pm.

ABOUT THE ARTIST (@cutpasteface)
“Kiki Buccini is a Jersey City–based collage artist who has been creating and sharing work for over a decade. Her art has appeared in a range of galleries and exhibitions, both locally and internationally, and she has also contributed collage work to several album covers and books. She is active in online and in-person collage communities, often collaborating and exchanging ideas with artists worldwide.

Working under the name Cutpasteface, Kiki explores surreal and humanist themes mainly through analog collage, and sometimes incorporates her own photography. Much of her process is intuitive and meditative, the story emerges as she sifts through materials and lets connections reveal themselves. Her work reflects curiosity about both the inner world and shared human experience.”

FROM THE CURATOR (@krisp.visuals)
“I knew of Kiki’s art long before I had the pleasure of meeting her in person. I’ve always been fascinated by the art of collage and its ability to take fragments from different places and moments and bring them together to create something entirely new. There’s something limitless about the medium. A single image can become a doorway into another world and I think Kiki has a beautiful ability to build those worlds. Each piece feels like its own story, while also offering you the freedom to imagine what that story might be.” taken in Green Space Studios by @cutpasteface

Still buzzing from Friday night’s opening of Piecing Together!

Thank you to everyone who came out and showed me so much love and support. I’m genuinely overwhelmed by it all 🫶

I ended up having 38 pieces in the show, and as I’m 37 years old, there’s something poetic about looking back at all these different versions of myself before I enter my 38th year. This show is about piecing together my identity, my experiences, and my place in the world, and getting to share that journey with you all means more than I can express. ❤️

A HUGE thank you to @krisp.visuals for the incredible curation and for helping bring my vision to life, the amazing @greenspacestudios team, and @contentbyjulissa for capturing these special moments! ✨

Piecing Together is on view through Sunday, October 25th! If you missed the opening, message @greenspacestudios to arrange a private viewing.

Feeling very full of love and gratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 💌 taken in Green Space Studios by @cutpasteface

Piecing Together is an exploration of identity, the subconscious, and the ongoing process of understanding ourselves.

These five works explore the tension between vulnerability and self-preservation, the desire for connection and the instinct to retreat, and the ways we navigate the often surreal landscapes of our inner worlds.

Figures appear suspended between worlds, concealed or partially revealed, reflecting the complexities of our internal lives and the many versions of ourselves we carry. Much of my collage practice is intuitive, allowing images and meanings to emerge without a predetermined narrative.

Piecing Together is as much about looking backward as it is about moving forward. It is an acknowledgment that identity is never fixed, that growth is rarely linear, and that even our most fragmented experiences contribute to the people we are becoming.

Sharing a few more pieces that will be in my solo show “Piecing Together” at @greenspacestudios ❤️‍🔥
Opening reception is this Friday, October 16th, from 6-9pm!

These four pieces explore the complexities of love, identity, and self-discovery, and how we can lose and find ourselves through our relationships.

From the tenderness of intimacy and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, to the disorienting feeling of losing ourselves in another person. “PLEASE” speaks to our desire for love, acceptance, and validation, while the fragmented figure reflects the many layers of identity and the sometimes surreal experience of trying to understand who we are.

Together, they reflect the heart of “Piecing Together”: we are constantly evolving, shaped by the people we love, the experiences that unravel us, and the parts of ourselves we’re still discovering.

Thanks for looking and I hope to see you Friday! taken in Green Space Studios by @cutpasteface

Disclaimer: this is not a How-To video!

Did I look up what kind of sandpaper I needed for this project? No. But did I do any kind of research before cutting out plexiglass and using wood glue to adhere to pinewood? Also no. Did it come out exactly how I hoped? Not a chance. Will I learn from my mistakes and do things properly next time? Probably not.

We love to wing it over here, what can I say.. Come see “Secluded Self” and lovingly judge my questionable DIY skills at my solo show, “Piecing Together”

“To Sea’s Deepest Pit” 🌊

For a long time, falling in love felt like sinking to the bottom of the sea. I would lose myself completely in another person, so consumed by the depth of my feelings that I couldn’t find my way back to myself. Love had a way of bringing my childhood wounds to the surface, triggering old fears and patterns I didn’t yet know how to navigate.

I turned this piece into a shadowbox, incorporating beach elements and a tiny clay creature that represents my scared inner child. A small, tender reminder of the part of me that learned to be afraid, and the part of me I’m learning to care for rather than silence.

I’m still learning. I don’t have it all figured out. But I’m beginning to understand that I can go deep without disappearing.

I’ll be sharing more work that will be in my solo show, “Piecing Together,” opening this week at Green Space Studios! This show brings together older and newer work, reflecting on identity, transformation, and all the pieces of ourselves we gather along the way.

On view October 12–25

In honor of International Lesbian Day, I’m sharing a few of my most sapphic works that will be in my solo show “Piecing Together” ❤️‍🔥

1. “Chase the Ache,” 2018

This piece was made in 2018, before I even knew I was gay. (Can you believe?!) Looking back, though, the queer yearning is so apparent. I added the “Love is a Rip Tide” artwork on the left after a friend pointed out that the woman being kissed by a man doesn’t exactly look like she’s enjoying it.

Heteronormativity is such a trip... the messages weren’t clear to me at the time, but looking back, I think my subconscious was trying to tell me something through my art all along.

2. “Vampire,” 2018

3. “Sapphic Scene I,” 2021

I was initially hesitant to include this piece in the show because I didn’t want it to come across as too p*rnographic.

I ended up loving how breaking the image apart and turning it into a kind of puzzle adds another layer of mystery. It feels fitting, because I had to disassemble and piece together my own understanding of sexuality, desire, and eroticism, too. ❤️‍🔥

My solo show “Piecing Together” is 8 days away and I wanted to start sharing some of the work that will be on display✨

“Abracadabra” 2018
“Somehow, Someday” 2018
“Searching” 2021

These works were originally made on paper, but for the show I decided to stain/paint pinewood and mount them. I’m really happy with the results and I can’t wait for you to see in person! ❤️

Still feeling so much gratitude after RESIST! ❤️‍🔥

Thank you to every artist who shared their work, every person who came through, and everyone who helped create a space for art, conversation and connection.

A huge thank you to @knittygrittyjc for partnering with us and helping bring this show to life. And a very special shoutout to Danielle and Chrissie for all the care, energy, and work they poured into making the day happen. This show truly would not have been the same without you.

I’m so grateful for the artists who trusted me with their work and for a Jersey City community that continues to show up for one another. Art can be a way to process, question, connect, remember, and resist. ❤️

Thank you for making RESIST! what it was. ✊ taken in Jersey City, New Jersey by @cutpasteface

What a turnout! ❤️‍🔥

Thank you to everyone who came out for RESIST! and helped make this show what it was meant to be: a gathering of art, community, conversation, and action.
Huge love to all of the artists who shared their work, the live poetry performances and art activations were so engaging.

The audio in this video is a clip from “Voices on the Block” by Christine Marie, an interactive sound installation where attendees could leave messages for their neighbors.

A special thank you to the Knitty Gritty members who spent the day helping folks get signed up to vote and sharing postcards about why voting matters. Art and civic engagement belong in the same room. 💛

Knitty Gritty’s next meetup is Tuesday, October 13 from 6:30–8 PM at @boxcafejc. Come hang, connect, and get involved.

Thank you, Jersey City, for showing up. 🙏💕 taken in Jersey City, New Jersey by @cutpasteface
