✨Masters of Social Work Grad 2024✨

Just a girl from community housing with big dreams.

Some know my personal background; many don’t. I am the first in my family to graduate with an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree. Oldest of 9 brothers and sisters. And many experiences, both challenging and positive, have led me to this moment in my life. A surreal moment (truly), statistically, I am not supposed to be where I am to accomplish what I have and will accomplish.

Starting my Masters 2 months after my brother passed away was probably one of the most trying times in my life. I battled depression, anxiety, and impostor syndrome while working full-time and being a personal trainer part-time. I got up almost every day wanting to give up and crawl into my little hole, but my boyfriend, friends, and family lifted me up when I felt like I couldn’t and spoke so much life into me when I had no more left.

I’ve been asked many, many times, “Cass, how do you do it?” And my answer truly is with the support of loved ones and to be honest, I have no other choice. I have younger brothers and sisters who look up to me. This moment is not only for me but for them. For them to know that where we started is not where we have to end, to know we are capable of achieving our goals and aspirations that may seem out of reach. But as much as they look up to me, through every difficult time in my life, they are my strength, my reason why. Through my experiences, through childhood and adulthood, my brothers and sisters have been my strength, my backbone, and my light. To them, I owe so much.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported and congratulated me. I am eternally grateful for everyone who has played a part in my life as I completed my MSW! You are so, so loved.
