A new chapter for Mississauga’s waterfront has officially begun! 🌿

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the opening of Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area today. What was once an industrial shoreline has been transformed into 26 hectares of wetlands, meadows, trails and wildlife habitat where people and nature can connect.

We can’t wait to see the memories you’ll make here! 💚 Tag us using @cvc_ca by @cvc_ca

Meet Tilly, CVC’s Conservation Detection Dog. 🐾

In partnership with Credit Valley Conservation Foundation, we’re launching the first Conservation Detection Dog Program in Ontario dedicated to the early detection and rapid response of invasive species.

Tilly, a scent-trained labrador retriever, will help identify priority invasive species on CVC properties starting this summer.
Preventing new species from becoming established is critical. Tilly is specially trained by Working K9 to use her highly developed sense of smell, up to 100,000 times more sensitive than humans, to detect target priority invasive species odours before more visible signs appear.

Developed in collaboration with experts from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Canadian Forest Service, this program strengthens CVC’s work to protect biodiversity and build resilience in a changing climate.

Welcome to the team, Tilly. 💚

Watch how she can quickly and accurately detect target species in this demonstration.

This is a “paws-itively” innovative approach to early detection and rapid response. 🐾 Learn more at the #LinkInBio

A major milestone for the Credit Valley Trail is now complete. 🎉

Yesterday, we celebrated the official opening of a new 40-metre pedestrian bridge at Upper Credit Conservation Area in Caledon.

This important river crossing improves trail connectivity to Orangeville, offers beautiful views of the surrounding wetland, forest and river valley, and brings us one step closer to a continuous 100-kilometre trail through the Credit River Valley.

The bridge is one of the first major infrastructure achievements for the Credit Valley Trail. Since 2020, the Credit Valley Conservation Foundation has been helping advance the trail through a 10-year campaign to raise $10 million to fully connect the route. Thanks to generous support from donors and partners, more than 65 per cent of that goal has already been achieved.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this exciting milestone and to the many partners and supporters helping bring the Credit Valley Trail vision to life. Learn more about the trail at creditvalleytrail.ca by @cvc_ca

Trick or tree! 🍬🌳 This Halloween weekend, we got dressed up to add 437 native trees and shrubs to the forests of Caledon and Mississauga! Huge thank you to the 117 spooktacular volunteers who helped us plant in style. Special thanks to @rotarymississauga Streetsville, @mississaugacommunitysocialc , @khalsaaidca , and @brucetrail_btc for bringing people together, and to Councillor John Kovac for joining us!

These planting projects were made possible through funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Growing Canada’s Community Canopies initiative and the @arbordayfoundation , @onresources , Green Municipal Fund @townofcaledon and @citymississauga . by @cvc_ca

No costume required for this Halloween enthusiast. 🎃

Meet the Halloween pennant (Celithemis eponina), a dragonfly named for its striking orange and black-brown wings. Its habit of perching on the tips of grasses and stems makes it look just like a tiny flag fluttering in the breeze.

Beyond its spooky-season charm, this dragonfly is a helpful predator, feasting on mosquitoes, gnats and other flying insects. Be sure to say Happy Halloween the next time you spot one! by @cvc_ca

🐶We teamed up with Credit Valley Conservation’s Conservation Detection Dog Program and Alberta’s Conservation K9 Unit to give you an inside look at how our four-legged friends are helping stop the spread of invasive species.

We're celebrating spooky season with some wickedly good stewardship milestones! 👻🌱

This weekend, an incredible team of volunteers planted 315 native trees and shrubs at Fallen Oak Park in Brampton, making it our largest community-powered planting event to date! 🌳 A huge thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and helped grow a healthier, greener community.

The spooky stewardship didn't stop there. In Halton Hills, volunteers got into the Halloween spirit by clearing 650m² of invasive buckthorn, helping restore native habitat while transforming the removed plants into witchy broomsticks. 🧙

Thank you to the amazing partners who helped make these events possible: @srmd.canada , @haltonnaturalists , @_haltonhills , @citybrampton and @soniasidhu

Our Halton Hills invasive species pull was generously funded by The @ongreenbelt Foundation supporting efforts to keep the Greenbelt healthy, vibrant and thriving for all.

Our Brampton tree planting was made possible through funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Growing Canada's Community Canopies initiative.

Together making a lasting impact across the Credit River Watershed.

🍄‍🟫 Fall colours come in all shapes and sizes across the Credit River Watershed. While we often look up to the trees, don't miss the vibrant displays on the forest floor.

Though present in the soil and decaying wood all year-round, in fall mushrooms emerge in all kinds of colours, shapes and textures. Next time you're at one of our parks take a closer look along trails, fallen logs and at the base of trees. You never know what fascinating fungi you might spot!

#FungiFact: Fungi are nature's recyclers, helping break down dead plant material and return nutrients to the soil. 🌱 by @cvc_ca

A haunted house but... trail edition 👻🥾
Swipe to get REAL goosebumps, this stuff is really scary, okay? 😨 What scares you when hitting the trails?

No trending audio, just the salmon run

Think you’ve spotted salmon in the Credit River? Every fall, salmon return from Lake Ontario to the rivers and streams where they were born, swimming upstream to spawn. 🐟

Atlantic Salmon, native to Lake Ontario, have had more observations in the Credit River lately thanks to ongoing restoration efforts. Though you most likely will observe Chinook and Coho Salmon, with Coho typically coming up in smaller runs into late October and early to mid November.

This remarkable journey can take them over obstacles, strong currents and shallow water, all driven by instinct. If you’re lucky enough to witness the salmon run, give these incredible fish plenty of space and enjoy the spectacle from the riverbank. by @cvc_ca

The trail you're enjoying today is what someone else will experience tomorrow.

Fall is one of the busiest seasons at our parks, with visitors soaking up the autumn colours and migratory wildlife making important seasonal journeys. Help keep these special places healthy for everyone by leaving no trace of your visit. 🚮

Pack out what you pack in, stay on designated trails and leave nature as you found it. Your small actions make a big difference for people, wildlife and the landscapes we all love. #LeaveNoTrace by @cvc_ca
