JUNE 8TH, 2019 โ€ข THE STORY BEHIND OUR WEDDING: Chase & I had a traditional wedding planned. We had signed contracts for catering and live music, had our venue, put money down, and were deep into planning. We were not happy, everything was turning into what everyone else wanted, there was drama, I broke down countless times, we were not excited, and you know... the usual traditional wedding chaos. Not too long ago, we decided to cancel the wedding. We scrapped all details and plans, and said "screw it, let's elope at Yosemite." And let me tell you, it was the best decision we ever made. Having an intimate ceremony consisting of only close family is something I recommend to all. Everyone gets to feel personal with the bride and groom. There was still some stress but it was not as bad as if we were to move forward with a traditional wedding. But the best part was how much closer Chase and I got after making the decision to elope. It was the biggest adventure we have done, to say the least. It takes guts for a bride and even a groom to ditch tradition. It can be hard as some families and friends will be upset, and you learn a lot about your relationships with some people when you take out the free alcohol and food. But I would not have changed a single damn thing. I am beyond happy we did this. And I am so thankful to everyone who came, everyone who reached out and congratulated us, and to those who helped make this possible. Thank you to Dana Shular for bringing my adventurous wedding vibes to life through your amazing work, to Courtney Olson for coming to my place at 12:45 AM to do my beautiful makeup, to both my parents and in laws for providing everything and being so supportive, to Robin for putting up with my episodes lol and for doing a spectacular job with my hair and for driving me to Yosemite, to National Park Services, to Maryam for working hard on my dress, to both of our families for taking time out of your weekend to witness our best day ever, to my husband for being my rock, and thank you God for the beautiful weather and your breathtaking creation that is Yosemite. โค๏ธ #adventuresoftheperkins #adventuresofcandaceandchase | ๐Ÿ“ธ: @danashularphotography taken in Yosemite National Park by @cvndvceperk

Dear mountains,

Iโ€™ll always love you. Not just for your grandeur, beauty, your summits and valleys, wildflowers, trees, and the wildlife that lives among you (like my personal favorites the pikas and marmots). But for the way you teach me how to see God.

You taught me that endurance isnโ€™t always about pushing harder or faster. Sometimes itโ€™s simply staying or standing through the wind.

You taught me that strength can be quiet. But, you also taught me that life was never meant to be only about the climb.
Sometimes God asks us to look around and soak it all in.

You taught me to surrender the need to get somewhere and simply be where my feet are. To sit beneath something greater than myself and remember that I donโ€™t have to control everything. I can just trust the One who created you.

To the mountains, you remind me that I am small (literally too because I am 4โ€™ 11โ€ lol), but never insignificant.
You taught me how to endure without becoming hard.
How to surrender without giving up.
How to keep climbing or running while still stopping long enough to notice the light.
And maybe thatโ€™s what I love most about you.

Thank you. โฃ๏ธ

Your pika,
Candace

My first exposure to trail running was exactly 5 years ago in July 2021.

Bit of quick background- Iโ€™ve been doing photography for 7 years mostly on outdoors adventures. (I just do it for for fun now for my personal memories on @cvndvceperk and donโ€™t care to monetize it these days).
When I moved to Utah, my first paid photography client here was an ultra marathon runner and I was hired to take photos of him running in the Albion wilderness during peak wildflower season. I remember being so excited because it was my first paid gig since my big move and it was right in my niche of photographing adventure and the great outdoors. But, the shoot was bunk lol. Because I was overweight, out of shape, not fit, and not used to elevation, I couldnโ€™t capture what was needed. I couldnโ€™t keep up with the runner and his runner buddies and I felt horrible because I was paid to capture them in their element and could barely do it. I was also embarrased for not being in shape enough, out of breath every second, and unable to walk a few feet without fighting for my life. I was a hiker at the time but not really much of a runner. And I remember thinkingโ€ฆ damn, runners are insane lol.

5 years later, 40 pounds down, some muscle built, and hundreds of miles in running laterโ€ฆ Iโ€™m running on those very same trails from that photoshoot. As an aspiring ultra-marathoner. ๐Ÿฅน

Full circle. Itโ€™s cool to see how much you can evolve when you get out of your own way. 2021 me would never believe this. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ taken in Wasatch Mountains by @cvndvceperk
