I took this photo 10 years ago in Galveston, TX. Four years before that I had traveled there with my father when he first got sick. It was my first time being the adult and alone with my dad and I had been truly terrified. 10 years ago I returned there days before my dad passed away. The last 10 years hasn’t felt like 10 years but a lifetime. It really doesn’t even feel like it happened to me that that I’m living in the same existence. I had desperately wished for my dad to have met this incredible woman I fell in love with but then he never had to see the thing I became when she walked out of it. 10 years today my father passed away. His final four years were not easy on anyone, mostly him. When he finally passed away we were all relieved in a way. My dad was the hardest working person I have ever known. My dad loved cars and motorcycles and had an endless supply of really bad dad jokes. The girls I worked with use to remind me how much I was like him. I use to think I’d never see my dad as the man he was but the skeleton he became through his final years. At his funeral I said I would carry on his legacy as a hardworking good person and I still show up everyday with that intention. by @cvrlizardboy

The front lead pack is a very quiet place. So symbolic for how I have felt the last few years. Full of pain, quiet and hiding the truth. I have just tried to understand and be honest with the person that I am at the starting line. There was something familiar when I showed up to this starting line, a confidence to suffer. I didn’t race under a fake name. There was no band shirt. I stepped to the front of the start line ready to see truly where my fitness is. I had not anticipated everything that happened. I have lost count the number of times I have raced this half marathon in Colorado Springs. It is an out and back course. First mile is always fast as the front pack jockeys for position. I kept waiting for the legs to fall off as the fatigue and pain continued to grow. Hitting the turnaround I caught a guy expecting to put in a small surge break the elastic and drop him. What happened was neither of us was willing to give an inch running step for step nearly 6 miles. Stone silence the entire time as neither of us said a word to each other just suffering and not relenting. I can’t recall a half marathon that has possibly hurt the way this did. It is shocking to see a PR at my age but apparently it can happen still. I went in to see where I’m at building into securing another Boston qualification. Seeing that result has felt the best I have felt in a few years. by @cvrlizardboy

I’ve found myself holding onto a rose for a while now. Holding onto it unable to let go. Blood dripping with hands scarred at this point. Full of pain but unable to let go regardless. I hold onto it still this dying reminder of the beautiful thing it use to be but also just a haunting fragment and the last connection not knowing how to live with it or without it. There just is no letting go and at this point the scars so deep and the infection so strong with no cure. I tried harder I believe in 2025 to heal find paths to get better, to let go but the scars still remain. I go into 2026 unoptimistic about getting better and I feel the weight of it more than ever. Paralyzed by the structures of life, anxiety and just unable to move forward or back. I don’t want to be apart of the world and I’ve failed multiple times to leave it and to join it. I get up everyday thankful for Leo and I will continue to into this next year. I try to focus on all things I know to focus on, running, music, art and Leo to dull the prickling burn from the thorns but the scars never heal from all that I’ve never been able to let go of. Hope 2026 brings the end and the beginning. That can be interpreted in many ways by however you see it. by @cvrlizardboy

After years of booing The Used I got to be boo’d back and they told me how sick my Counterparts shirt is. Score stressing for a week what the perfect shirt was to meet the band in. The last few nights was an experience. Getting to see this band play a different album every night so meaningful. There is bands and songs you just remember exactly where you were the first time you heard them and I still remember exactly hearing the taste of ink for the first time and I was never the same. That first Used album changed my life. I cried and jumped around and sang every song as I saw them play the entirety of the three albums and at the end it hit me that this is the end and shocker I cried some more. Music seems to be the only place I feel a safe place to go. It doesn’t take my loneliness but I at least don’t feel like a fake. by @cvrlizardboy

I’ve cried in races before, it’s not something shocking. My first Ironman I bawled at the finish line in the arms of a volunteer. Racing after my dad passed, who knows how many training runs. Racing when I was about to get married and even more when I raced with haunted memories from the sudden unexpected end of it. Running Boston was an overwhelming experience. The sheer amount of runners around me. Crowds that I could never imagine. 26.2 straight miles of people lining the side of the roads. It would hit me so hard coming into the towns and just the insane volume of noise and people I would start choking up and struggle to catch my breath. It’s just something I’ve never experienced or could be ever prepared for. It was really hard to deal with not being here for this race at a level of fitness I was proud of and just has been a true struggle to accept period. I ran to the point where my legs couldn’t hold me up anymore but that number on the clock still doesn’t deny the truth. I’ve developed a number of relationships since heading into this endurance journey. Dana has prolly been one of the most important. Sharing start lines as much as support. Letting me stay at his home with his family and bringing me in like I am family. I walked out of that finish shoot and cried in his arms. I’m not sure he was ready for it. I don’t take for granted ever the people who support me and could make a post for each person. I may run to destroy myself but I finish and dedicate for those who have supported me by @cvrlizardboy
