For many of us, tea carries the memory of family, home, and the journey in between. 🍃

At 茶頁 Tea Within the Pages, we’ll turn those stories into zines using drawings, writing, and collage inspired by the taste and smell of four different teas. A gentle space for newcomers to Canada to reflect, share, and make something meaningful.

The piece is on the invisible forces of nature that moves us and it won a little award for best animation at the pilot Modern Black & White Film Festival in Argentina. Hope there will be more chances to share this work with everyone locally soon!

Last year I had the opportunity to quietly work on “围绕这厨房桌子: Around the Kitchen Table”, an 18 minute animation in memory of my grandparents. The piece captures the everyday rituals of cutting fruit, preparing food, and various family activities that is performed in a year cycle.

The project is currently screening @mpcas.vancouver on Kingsway and Broadway till March 2025. The animation will change throughout the season so look up if you happen to pass by!

A big thank you to all the hand performers 👐🏻 (Barry Lu, Jane Chen, Jean Zheng, Jelena Xing, Lani Xu)

I am delighted to share a little clip of a new community inspired animation short titled “一字千景: a thousand scenes in one word” 🌿🌧️🌙

During two workshops in March and April 2023, participants explored their stories with nature through a guided process of brainstorming and imagining with rice paper and ink. These drawings and ideas were the inspiration for this little piece.

Thank you to everyone who came to see the screening last weekend @vancouverchinesegarden! I am so honoured to have them as the community partner and collaborator for this project.

We were delighted to host and collaborate with artist Cherry Lu @cwensquared for her project: A thousand scenes in one word.

The two workshops that Cherry held at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden with the Chinese Immigrant Community to connect with environmental values through calligraphy and drawing, will be the basis for her animation work.

We had a wonderful time witnessing the artist process of the community and look forward to seeing the final results. 😉🙏✨ Cherry’s collaborative and finished animation will be on display at the garden from (May 26th - May 28th, 2023).

I am so excited to share a new project titled: 一字千景: a thousand scenes in one word. It is a community engaged project that aims to connect the Chinese immigrant community with environmental values through calligraphy, drawing, and animation.

*edit: March 19 workshop is now closed but we added a new April 2 date!

In the workshop, participants will be guided through a process of brainstorming and imagining with calligraphy and drawing using rice paper and ink. Simple motion techniques will be introduced. The artworks created will be made into an animation that will bring to life our connections to the environment as Chinese immigrants through the motifs of Chinese calligraphy. Stay tuned for the screening date!
