Found this absolute goldmine of used crime paperbacks at Value Village today, a few first and second printings. When you wind up *leaving behind* books by George V. Higgins and Donald E. Westlake, you know somebody must have a dropped off a box of treasures. (The movie tie-in of All the President’s Men is just a bonus.) by @cwsmets

Super fun mid-week date night with @arwenhumphreys: TIFF Lightbox, Christopher Nolan series launch, Big Picture live taping (complete with Canadian film draft & special appearances by Matt Johnson & Adam Nayman), dinner at Canteen. It doesn’t get much better. taken in TIFF by @cwsmets

I used to live down the street from this place. It’s closed now, but the bad vibes are still palpable. Plans were hatched around those pool tables. Guys had fights on the steps and somebody got pushed too hard, fell down and broke something. I never went in but boy do I miss it. by @cwsmets

I almost didn’t go see 1986’s NIGHT OF THE CREEPS in 35mm at the Revue last night. It was a 9:30 show, I’d had a terrible sleep the night before, I was exhausted, yadda yadda. But I’m sure glad I did, because it featured a surprise intro and Q&A with co-star Steve Marshall (J.C.), who by all evidence seems like a real sweetheart. He told us that there were more people in the theatre last night than there were at the Eaton Centre shoebox it was playing on opening night in ‘86. Thanks to @revuecinema and @nathanboonetrailers for continuing to make the good stuff happen. by @cwsmets

This is what happens in Toronto when @davebidini and @mattywattsy run into each other at a grocery store.

Last night @arwenhumphreys and I got to attend this 30th anniversary (!!!) screening and panel for Ken Finkleman’s The Newsroom, which I think is not only one of the best Canadian series ever made, but is hands down one of my favourite shows ever. Thanks to the @westendphoenix for putting it on, thanks to @paradiseonbloor, great to see Dave, Matt, @kristintbooth, @ppktoronto, and the rest of the cast, and if you’re never seen it, go fire it up on CBC Gem right now. That first season in particular is perfect television. taken in Paradise by @cwsmets

I’ve been wanting to revisit Raymond Carver’s writing for a while and then found these two secondhand in the past week. Sometimes things are right there when you need them to be. by @cwsmets
