Whaaaaat! Complete beginners going on group rides??? South Asian men learning to fix a bike led by a South Asian woman? Refugees learning to ride and fix real time faults with bikes. And best of all, 5 people were gifted bikes after the success of a Big Bike Revival Project delivered by Cycle With Sumayra and the assistance of the fabulous Richard. This Sunday marked the final session of Wheelin’ for Wellbeing — a brilliant project by Cycle with Sumayra helping parents and carers of SEND families get cycling. With the grand finale family ride.

A message from @cycle_with_sumayra, our fellow parent-carer who organised these Wheelin' for Wellbeing sessions:

"Last Wheeling 4 Wellbeing session this morning!! 10am at Cringle park. We’re celebrating with a family ride. Adult bikes and helmets available to borrow for free, children will need to bring their own bikes. Complimentary drinks for all. Let’s enjoy the cooler temperatures together on a Sunday morning 🥰 can’t wait."

So, so incredibly proud of Jawad, who started off at the Wednesday learn to ride sessions in Cringle Park. He’s attended every learn to fix session and is one session away from having his bike fully fine tuned. He’s learnt to fix a puncture, replace an inner tube, adjust his breaks to stop that screeching sound, fix his chain skipping a gear, and is now even at the stage of accessorising his bike with the addition of a kickstand. Come along to our final learn to fix session. No need to have a a bike to fix, you can still learn some really simple and easy ways to maintain your bike so it doesn’t end up stuck in the shed! We’ll have a few goodies to give away, along with a complimentary snacks and drinks to keep you energised, cool and hydrated while we learn. by @cycle_with_sumayra

What a fabulous day to be out with fellow SEND parents, who get it! Thank you for choosing your own wellbeing, thank you sharing your experiences, thank you for investing your time and energy on a hottttt day. We all left feeling better than when we arrived, INCLUDING ME! Not gonna lie, my tank was on empty, navigating a whole week of co regulation, being an emotional sponge and absorbing some severe melt downs, being a support system to an ND family unit, whist juggling work and life admin, but this session, with these people, and those bikes! Boy did I get the therapy I needed!! For this Sunday, join us at Cringle park, 10am, for a FAMILY ride. Bring your bikes and your children. Now that we’ve filled our cups, let’s have the ones we do this for join the ride! (Limited bikes available so you’ll need to contact me to book on). Special thanks to @splatter_chimp for always showing up. Ever grateful to @kenfosterscycles for setting me up with the Bromptons. love, love, love Ellen @wearecyclinguk for bringing the e-Bromptons for everyone to try out, oh and can’t forget @groundedmcr for keeping us hydrated with lush icy drinks and popsicles. The penultimate session!! Join us at the corner of cringle (Errwood Road entrance) where I’ll have Bromptons and helmets ready for you. PLUS E-Bromptons courtesy of @wearecyclinguk E-Cycle hub. A great opportunity to try something new. So what can you expect today? Obviously the Sun, and the heat!! But we’ll stay in the shade. Come and join Richard and I for some bike fun, whatever ability you are. A fun, welcoming, non judgmental, safe space to connect, rant, feel seen, heard and understood (Lord knows I need this, currently having a SEND parent/carer tough time of things). And the heat of it!! Obviously! But we’ll set up in the shade. A welcoming space, no judgment, smiles, friendly conversation, time to rant (Lord knows I need it!!
