Grateful for SO much that goes into an event like this:
• Answered prayers and the ability to see all the natural blessings around me every day🙏

• My amazing, supportive husband Scott who supports me and let's me chase my dreams🥰

• Our amazing crew Marc, Dave, Jen and Troy who treated us like pro racers out there at all the aid stops in the desert canyons- they were all over the place on no sleep just to be sure we had what we needed🥹

50 Mile Ultra✔️ I was very indecisive about whether to put up this post or not. But maybe by putting myself out there, someone will reach out and say they want to try something like this too? I want to see YOU live fully. I want to help build you up. Whatever your "race" is, do it! Travel, push your body hard, be honest and show your love. We aren't guaranteed tomorrow. After Sun, I feel blessed to have experienced such beautiful pain. Today I get to celebrate 8 years of marriage with this amazing man, 8 years of triumphs, ever-growing LOVE, navigating life's tough challenges, adventuring and watching our babies grow into little men. 2024 Marji Gesick Mountain Bike Recap
114 miles. 13,000 elevation gain. 18 hours 7 mins

I went into this race thinking it would be downright horrible, from what I've heard. I couldn't believe how wrong I was. I NEVER expected an immediate desire to ride that course again.

This course has it all. Throughout the miles of endless single track I saw the gnarly roots of Whitetail Ridge that I have grown to know and love. We relived the Cuyana burgandy dirt trails rich in iron. I felt the flowy downhills of Kinni trails and the familiar steep ATV trail climbs of Cheuamegon Nat Forrest. We scaled the steep rock descents and ledges that once scared me when I rode in Spearfish, SD. I can go on and on about the beauty and diversity of the trail system, but point being- my cycling friends who love adventure and single track, this is for YOU.

*Do keep in mind there are parts of this course that will PUSH YOUR LIMITS mentally and physically, BUT... if you have an open mind and a positive spirit, it's a great day on the bike. The adversity seemed to only be 20% of your time on the bike. If you have a desire to try it, I'd suggest finding a buddy with similiar single track skills and have fun together throughout your day. Congrats to all my amazing, inspirational cycling buddies who finished strong yesterday: Clayton Kaufer, Tony Talentino and Chuck Thompson.

Brad- My ride or die buddy- thanks for always being down for fun cycling adventures with me. I appreciate your support and guidance always.

Scott Furlong- I love you SO much. You support me and you're the best crew ever! Thank you. Life with you is never dull. And, Betty Rutledge- Thanks for watching the boys and keeping them safe and happy. We love you!

Cheq 40 ✔️🍁
What a beautiful day! I get to surround myself with some badass mom racers, good friends, and quality teammates willing to dig deep with me 🥵 My sweet little fam even got to bask in the race scene for a few minutes amidst all the camping fun we were having. The women and men around me always bring the heat to Cheq 💪🔥 This weekend marks one of my favorite racing memories. Congrats to all the racers on a successful day in the Northwoods. See you next year🫡

Leadville, CO Race Across the Sky🏁12,251ft of climbing starting at the highest city in the US🏔105 miles🚴‍♀️

Last year at Leadville was experimental and investigatory. I finished in 9:48 and was pleased for my first run at elevation. I was surrounded by all my favorite bike people and it was magnificent. Hard, yes- but I was left with homework for 2024's assignment and hungry for more.

Fast forward. This year was going to be different! Now that I knew the course, grew stronger, planned smarter, trained harder I was determined for a sub 9 finish. A girl can dream, right? This year I even had a loyal pacer to hold me accountable too @bradtheonly🚵‍♂️ Admittedly, I underestimated the requirements for this perfect day.

My bike was so dialed in, body carb loaded to the max and was well rested- on paper it looked good! What I didn't account for was GI distress that can happen at any point. Elevation, carbs and travel can do some weird things to the body and I was in for a full day of hurt. I didn't anticipate the course to be a bit harder than last year and the air was thinner than I recalled. With many attempts, I couldn't get essential carbs in to produce power. I wasn't alone in not hitting my goal- many friends didn't either unfortunately. We were unified in our suffering 🤎 The day was quiet for me, my mind was searching for the thoughts to finish at 9:56🕘 and this is what surfaced:

I have so much to be grateful for! I'll be back😑

• I am so privileged to ride bikes, to have fitness, to have time, support...etc. What a BLESSING!
• My supportive husband and little boys are thinking of me at this moment! My sweet family always supports my crazy endeavors and training💖
• My good friend and training partner is here to push and pace ME?! He can easily do this course sub 9 hour. This is what true friendship is about!
• My support crew is so generous and giving, treating me like a pro. What did I do to deserve such amazing friends.
• I think of my friend back home who was a stellar athlete and now is immobile due to an accident. He would give anything to feel what I am feeling at this very moment.

This race☝️ I can't even put the experience into words! Miles of Mud Soup flowing like lava had us ALL questioning our inner strength, our bikes durability, and our own ability to finish with a smile on our face. Ultimately, everyone needs some Lutsen 99'er 2024 in their life, whether we believe it or not. What a gift of gratitude. As brutal as that was, I am grateful I got to "suffer" 🙏 It was worth the effort🥉🏆 These girls are so strong. I am SO impressed with my team! The girls had a booming attendance ALL taking a podium in AG and a few of the dudes scoring Leadville entries through qualifying results. We signed up for Lutsen 99'er, and completed a Tough Mudder, thank God it's over. Now to Leadville for that Big Girl Buckle!

Epic Bike Fest 2024:

Not my best Epic Single Track Finish but I am so happy to have finished smiling! I am honored to be around such inspiring people on days like this and EVERY DAY. My Team did great- No setbacks due to major injuries, and many shared smiles together! Congrats to ALL the amazing finishers today sharing light and positivity on the course.

I went down at mile 10 and got the wind knocked out of me, and jammed my shoulder joint trying to stop myself from falling further and yes, I was ready to call it. You know what I am talking about if you have been here^ in a race. After a few mins of self pity, I thought- "Wait, my bike is working fine! My bones are INTACT. I have a friend who would do anything to be in my place right now! What am I doing sitting here?! I lost a lot of places BUT I have an opportunity to work back up the ladder". What a gift that exact moment is, right? God is good and I am blessed and capable!

Some hilights:
• 13th/60 female finisher
• Learning more about equipment choice and handling skills
• Ideal weather
• Fueled sufficiently
• No broken bones or bike
• Rode with familiar faces, which doesn't always happen at races
