Community cycle workshop & cafe in Kendal. OPENING 2026. Part of the Eddington Kendal CIC and @eddington_practice and @5mileswithsmiles

POSTS STORIES REELS

We've been having a go at pickling veggies over the weekend and been thinking about our menu for the cafe when it opens next year.

First- let's set your expectations!

☕️The space will be small and cosy - 10-12 covers

🥕 The menu will be simple but tasty, hearty and healthy - grub that gives you energy for a good bike ride!!

💚 We will aim to use local suppliers and will be open to accepting allotment gluts and finding ways to ensure locally grown food never goes to waste!

🚚 A seasonal menu which may vary week to week or even day to day with food miles kept to an absolute minimum!

So pickling veggies today, we were thinking about how we get through the lean months of winter.

First go at piccalili (onions, cucumber, carrot and cauliflower), beetroot and apple relish, cucumber and red pepper chutney 😋
Most of the ingredients came from our @growingwellcumbria cropshare, supplemented by a few organic additions from @lowsizerghbarn THANKYOU!

❓️QUESTION- what locally grown/produced food would you like to see on the menu?

Let us know in the comments!!! #kendalfood by @cyclery124

Take a sneak peek behind the scenes!!

Work has taken a little longer than anticipated, but awesome volunteers Martin and Brian are cracking on doing a wonderful job!!

The plan is to open very soon with just the bike workshop, with the little cafe opening in Spring 2027.

Thanks to the wonderful community of Kendal for offers of help. We'll be getting in touch once we're properly organised with volunteering slots and tasks.

Meanwhile, you can still book in for a bike service or repair, which from November may still be at the Eddington, or just possibly at 124 Stricklandgate.

In other news, watch out for details of a Kids Bike Swap service coming soon to the Eddington on Saturdays!

💚 See you very soon!

Get ready to unlock a world of possibilities in Cumbria, car-free! 🚴‍♀️

We're thrilled to support 5 Miles With Smiles, a community challenge that celebrates the most creative, fun-filled journeys to and around our stunning county of Cumbria.

Whether you're cycling, scooting, paddling, or wheeling, the goal is to spread joy and smiles along the way! 😊

Our team member Jo shares her fave weekend route, a scenic cycle from Kendal to Bowness, Windermere Ferry, and back, with a refreshing coffee stop and lake dip in between. ☕️

Tired legs meant hopping on a train back to Kendal - a grand day out which included 6 modes of transport!! (cycling, walking, swimming, ferry, Dragon boat and train)

Join in the fun, and you could win amazing prizes from local businesses! 🎁

Hello folks!
We finally managed to get back in to our newly created Instagram account! Yeeha 🤪

Work has been happening behind the scenes. Work progress was somewhat delayed for various reasons out of our control.

We hope to announce a date very soon to open up the cycle workshop , with the cafe side of things more likely to be early 2027.

Keep watching this space!

To make this beast work, we need to hit the ground running, so please do spread the word, and if you need help with bike fixing, repairs or a bike service, we have a few slots available at the mothership at the Eddington on Highgate (former United Reform Church)

All details and to book, visit our website. Link in bio.
Can't wait to welcome you soon
