During the launch of the Commonwealth Youth Policy Recommendations report on Climate Change at #COP28

The report outlines the climate concerns of young people in the Commonwealth and proposes specific actions for governments to engage young people & the youth in decision-making, underlining that the “hope of tackling climate change lies with the youth.”

The report also calls on governments to move beyond speeches and deliver concrete action to safeguard the planet.

Young people are not just recipients of mental health support they are essential partners in shaping solutions.

To mark World Suicide Prevention Day, the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Hon Shirley Botchwey, joined youth advocates and practitioners for an intergenerational dialogue on mental health. The message was clear: listening must lead to action.

Just ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting where a Youth Forum will be held, the dialogue was a starting point for integrating youth voices into the agenda for mental health, resilience and wellbeing.

The Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network (CYCN) is a network of young climate leaders and youth-led organizations working across the 56 Commonwealth member states. The Network aims to make climate change a priority for young people and engage them as key stakeholders in addressing climate challenges through grassroots, national, and regional climate action and collective sustainable solutions.

As one of the 12 youth-led organizations from 10 countries jointly organizing RCOY Asia Pacific 2026, CYCN will contribute to building a dynamic regional platform that strengthens collaboration, fosters meaningful dialogue, builds youth capacity, and co-creates the Regional Youth Statement (RYS). This collective youth policy document contributes to the Global Conference of Youth (GCOY) and the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP).

We are proud to collaborate with the Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network in advancing a more inclusive, resilient, and youth-led future for climate action across the Asia-Pacific and beyond.

60% of the Commonwealth’s 2.7 billion people are younger than 30 years old. Meaningful access to development and policy processes is a critical way to ensure that young people’s unique perspectives and ideas are heard and included in decision-making, and negotiation skills is a core building block.

36 young leaders from 24 countries convened at the Commonwealth Secretariat’s headquarters in London for the Commonwealth Youth Multilateral Negotiations Training. Engaged in environmental work, participants sharpened their skills and tools to engage in global negotiations across the three Rio Conventions on climate change, biodiversity and land degradation.

The training was led by Lia Newman, an international climate negotiations expert and trainer, including as a former lead US government negotiator under the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement. Over three days, the training was interactive, combining lecture-based modules with role playing, including the lively and highly engaged mock negotiations.

The participants embodied their respective roles , leading the charge for the different negotiating groups, such as the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), European Union (EU), Like-Minded Developing Countries (LMDC), Group of 77 and China (G77+China), and the United States (US), Brazil, India and the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia among others. by @cycnofficial
