[cync Performance] 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》 기간 중 열린, 전시의 음악을 맡은 My Life for Sale의 공연 현장을 공유합니다. [cync Performance] Here is a look back at the performance by My Life for Sale, who made the music for 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》, held during the exhibition. Throughout the show, their music had drifted through the space. That evening, for the first time, the sound took on a body. Through the voices of those who have held on to an unfinished album for years, the room became, for a while, a place where the line between audience and performer blurred. Just as the contributors to this exhibition said aloud, for the first time, something they had carried quietly for years, this performance did the same. Something that can go on precisely because it is unfinished. Something that does not stop, knowing it cannot win. What the ballpoint pen did on paper, voice and instruments did that night on air. Our thanks to everyone who stayed with us. Names and titles set aside, listening to the same sound: that hour may have been the closest this exhibition came to saying what it set out to say. We look forward to seeing you at our next exhibition this November. Performance by My Life for Sale cync B1–1F, 577 Tongil-ro, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul by @cync.official
[cync Exhibition] 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》이 어제 막을 내렸습니다. 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》 closed yesterday. Our thanks to everyone who visited over these forty-six days. We are especially grateful to the eight contributors who said out loud, for the first time, something they had carried quietly for years; to My Life for Sale, who have held on to an unfinished album and kept writing because of it; and to Kyungbeen Park and Suhyun Park (operator), who made this exhibition. Writing anyway, knowing you cannot win. The exhibition has closed, but that persistence continues, each in their own place. Before art became an asset, before it became something owned, it was probably a place like this. A place that belongs to no one, where everyone can look in for a while. We hope this exhibition was that kind of place, even briefly. We look forward to seeing you at our next exhibition. Nocturnal Flight: Montage 5 hand-transfers a city nightscape onto a beeswax surface, and standing before it like a quiet guard is a piano, tilted, its keys no longer able to sound. The notes never chosen are replaced with amethyst and scattered across white fabric, the hand still remembering it as a keyboard. Elsewhere sits a work made from a printed Charter of the United Nations, its frame propped at an angle, every letter "i" physically cut out of it. A document missing the individual (I) still functions with a few letters gone, and that total exclusion flips into the strongest kind of emphasis. And moving through all of it is a track called "Crawfish and Lobster," drifting across the entire space. The exhibition closes this Saturday, October 10. 전시 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》에서 함께 만나보실 수 있으며, 10월 10일까지 이어집니다. cync will stay open through Chuseok this year, no closures. In Kyungbeen Park's Crossroad, each small drawer of an old secretary desk holds a piece of writing on the theme of the crossroads by a different author, along with a symbolic personal object they sent in. Framed above on the wall are traces of those same texts, with shards of broken glass scattered down the wall below. The work is a conversation carried out by eight different writers, each offering up their own words and objects from where they stand. Exchanged in writing, it echoes the exhibition's title: a duel fought not with swords, but with a ballpoint pen. Open the drawers one by one and you'll find a different voice, a different crossroads, each time. On view as part of Fencing with a Ball Point Pen, through October 10. 전시 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》은 10월 10일까지, 연휴 기간에도 변함없이 이어집니다. cync will stay open through Chuseok this year, no closures. Melted star candies pool into a small planet on a mirrored disc in Kyungbeen Park's Goodwill Moon Rock, while a streak of light across the wall reads like the afterimage of a moon just passed overhead. Back in 1972, Apollo 17 brought home a moon rock that got carved up and handed out to countries around the world the following year as a token of "goodwill." All told, the pieces weighed just over 2 kilograms, and that goodwill label never really protected them. Fragments went missing, got stolen, turned up decades later, and had to be tracked down again and again. Park takes that same 2 kilograms and rebuilds it in star candy instead, packing it into a domed mold and hardening it in layers until it's a moon of her own making, 40 centimeters across. Under this year's harvest moon, come sit with this quiet little moon for a while. Fencing with a Ball Point Pen runs through October 10, open as usual through the holiday. <FENCING WITH A BALLPOINT PEN> Opening Reception KYUNGBEEN PARK, MY LIFE FOR SALE 당신의 시선과 시간이 더해지는 순간, 《My Life for Sale》의 첫 장면을 함께해주세요. ◆ DATE: 2026년 9월 12일 (토) ◆ TIME: 5PM – 7PM ◆ PROGRAM 5:00 PM Opening Remarks 5:30 PM Live Performance ◆ VENUE: cync B1-1F, 577 Tongil-ro, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul ◆ PARKING: 주차가 불가하오니 대중교통 이용을 권장합니다.
[cync Exhibition] 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》 Kyungbeen Park, My Life for Sale August 26 – October 10, 2026 Wed–Sat, 1–7pm In the work before you, a single letter is missing. With every instance of the letter ‘i’ physically excised from the UN Charter, has this document lost its function—or does it remain fully legible, unaffected by the absence? cync B1–1F, 577 Tongil-ro, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul Wed–Sat, 1–7pm by @cync.official
[cync Exhibition] 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》 Kyungbeen Park, My Life for Sale August 26 – October 10, 2026 Wed–Sat, 1–7pm Many visitors have already experienced cync's third exhibition. If you're planning a visit, we invite you to leave your earphones aside as you step into the space. Take a moment to feel the forms and depth before you, the textures of the materials, and the sounds that fill the room. Not just what you see, but what almost feels tangible, and what you hear. This exhibition is a place to experience the immersion created when different senses overlap within a single space. cync B1–1F, 577 Tongil-ro, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul Wed–Sat, 1–7pm by @cync.official
[cync Exhibition] 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》 Kyungbeen Park, My Life for Sale August 26 – October 10, 2026 Wed–Sat, 1–7pm Major Tom, can you hear me? Fencing with a Ball Point Pen opens tomorrow, August 26. Browsing old books in Cheonggyecheon, the artist came upon a telephone directory: a list of numbers that could once reach somewhere. But that place had already become a suspended world. Nothing in it is familiar, save the odd branch name of a large company. Most of the numbers would be empty by now. And yet the fact of it, held in the hand, carrying texture and weight which produces the thinnest thread of connection. Who are these people in front of me? I want to reach them. To be less of a stranger to them, she layers the thin pages together and sews them by hand. The paper feels as though it will tear, and it does. Forward and back, gauging the far side of the needle by fingertip, the work grows heavy and accumulates until it spills past the desk, rises above her height, and crosses the living room. Not quite a curtain — more like a blind, occupying an invisible space and inviting touch. Something visible, made in the attempt of the invisible to reach the invisible. The title comes from the astronaut in David Bowie's "Space Oddity," drifting away with his transmission cut. A question thrown from one adrift to another. Major Tom, can you hear me? cync B1–1F, 577 Tongil-ro, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul Wed–Sat, 1–7pm by @cync.official
[cync Exhibition] 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen》 Kyungbeen Park, My Life for Sale August 26 – October 10, 2026 Wed–Sat, 1–7pm cync의 새로운 전시 《Fencing with a Ball Point Pen(볼펜으로 하는 펜싱)》이 8월 26일 문을 엽니다. Fencing with a Ball Point Pen opens at cync on August 26, 2026. We could not survive alone, so we made laws, nations, and names for ourselves. At some point the order reversed: what we built grew larger than us. A soldier. A law student. An office worker. A teacher. Necessary names, all of them, yet inside each one, the person quietly steps back. This exhibition is a small objection to that disappearance. Kyungbeen Park's visual work and My Life for Sale's music sit alongside writing from people who'd never otherwise have crossed paths: a soldier, a law student, a sculptor who dreams of blacksmithing, a pharmacist who writes poetry. None came to become artists; they came to say, for the first time, something carried quietly for years. Among them are the two who made the show. That is what the ballpoint pen in the title means: against something as large as a law or a nation, the only thing a person can hold is a line written in their own hand. Writing anyway, knowing you cannot win, that persistence is what this exhibition is trying to say. [cync Exhibition] 《Provisional Forms》 Hejum Bä, Sarah Cunningham, Sueyon Hwang, Xie Lingrou May 1 – June 13, 2026 Wed–Sat, 13:00–19:00 《Provisional Forms》는 재현의 새로운 양식을 선언하기보다, 형상을 바라보는 태도의 전환을 제안합니다. Rather than declaring a new mode of representation, 《Provisional Forms》proposes a shift in how form is perceived. The exhibition no longer approaches form as a given object. Instead, it understands form as a processual event—something that briefly emerges, becomes unsettled again, momentarily organizes itself into a system, then slips away into another state without ever becoming fixed. Within the density and tension of this provisional condition, the exhibition seeks to reflect on the conditions that shape contemporary visual experience. cync, B1–1F, 577 Tongil-ro, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul Wed–Sat, 1–7pm by @cync.official
