Donde estamos, donde hemos estado, donde vamos y cómo llegamos.

Con la obra de @diegodelarosart como espejo que percibe los temas de identidad Venezolana. Una identidad que a tenido que lidiar con el precipicio de catástrofe y bajar con ella.
.
A couple more weeks of shooting before we wrap on the year long documentary in the making. More of an introspective and a meditation on the themes surrounding his work. But also putting faces to these realities.
.
When I started the project I had a Venezuelan friend make a joke that I would need therapy once I was done with all my interviews and research. As is with most jokes there is some truth there. And now… lol less so a therapist but more so the need for dialogue about what it’s been like.
.
Grateful. Nothing but.
.

On the most recent trip to CDMX I had the honor of revisiting some old friends and the great pleasure of making new ones. As is with some of us—it is hard to separate work from play.
.
I helped myself given the opportunity to continue to document some of the artists I have working relationships with. Really it’s a love for connection more than it is a job. And moreover a love of art and humanity. I am very lucky to be surrounded by so much magic and it certainly doesn’t go unnoticed. I’m always pointing my camera at something lol

Really just grateful for the opportunities and grateful to call all these amazing people my friends and family.

I’ll be leaving the country next week. Headed towards Spain to embark on the continuation of my first international doc. (thanks to the Canadian Council of the Arts and my dear friend and artist Diego De La Rosa)

It always takes a while to process life as it is happening. So here is a benchmark for now. I hope to keep on fighting the good fight as long as I am able.

Gracias a todos mis amigos. Gracias a toda mi familia por el inquebrantable apollo y el amor ciego que me dan y que tienen en mi. Los amo a todos—no hay suficiente tiempo ni suficientes palabras.

At the intersection of textile arts, painting, and sculpture, Jacqueline Surdell challenges traditional categories. Moving fluidly between these disciplines, she establishes her practice as one of transformation.

Her work extends beyond material experimentation to interrogate broader themes of power, labor, and doctrine. Raised in the Catholic Church, Surdell revisits religious iconography, using her physically intensive practice as a form of rumination and discovery. Through this lens, she considers the nature of ritual, myth, the sacred, the monumental, and the sublime, questioning where she and, by extension, the body are situated within these structures.
