ACROSS THE AMERICAS
September 22–October 19, 2026

Now on view on Artsy.

Featuring Dante Migone-Ojeda, Nelmir Guzman, Angie Rangel, Hannah Banciella, and Marco Caridad.

Across ten works, the exhibition considers how cultural memory travels across generations and geography, taking new form through contemporary artistic practice.

The featured artists entered the Uncool Gallery ecosystem through our Solo Show Open Calls and UAR cohorts, and this exhibition continues that visibility through Uncool Gallery’s Artsy program.

Presented in dialogue with Hispanic Heritage Month.

Introducing Dante Migone-Ojeda (@d_m_ojeda), one of the artists featured in 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒓𝒆 opening March 19th (reception 6-8pm) at @pelhamartcenter, curated by @neptuneinjune.ny ✨️

𝗢𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟵 - 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟮𝟲
𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟵 (𝟲-𝟴 𝗽𝗺)

Drawing on the poetics of his Peruvian-American identity, Dante Migone-Ojeda’s practice focuses on mestizaje, an identity born from the violent collision of indigenous culture and Spanish colonizers. It has since become the dominant identity in much of Latin America, often erasing its brutal history. Migone-Ojeda’s process reflects those origins, consisting of alchemical fusions of raw elements, combining wood, earth, metals, flowers, and religious materials into sculptural forms drawn from Catholic and Andean mythologies. These combinations serve as his reflection on living with this identity and spirituality so closely interwoven with his personal and family history, and the cruelty that underpins both.

Exhibition also featuring Armando Veve (@armandoveve), Naomi Chambers (@naomibdaygirl), Lydia Kinney (@l.m.kinney), and Brian Smith (@bri_n). taken in New York, USA by @d_m_ojeda

Dante Migone Ojeda, A memory of growth, regrowth (2024)
Found wood, alpaca wool, rosary, dried roses, marble, epoxy, copper, huayruro seeds

Dante Migone-Ojeda (b. 1993) is a Peruvian-American sculptor born in Southern Illinois and based in Queens, NY. Informed by his childhood in the American heartland as the child of immigrants, his practice is centered around syncretism as it reflects and arises from mestizaje and its colonial and neo-colonial violence. He received his MFA from Columbia University in 2019. He is a 2017-2019 Leroy Neiman Print Fellow, and a 2019 Wassaic Project Print Fellow. His shows include The Future is Latinx at Eastern Connecticut State University, 9999 at the Fireplace Project in Easthampton, DRAWN (OVER) at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina, Serbia, Two Grains of Wheat at 601 Artspace, and Echo Locator at Field Projects. His work was also recently featured in The Body Show at Arts Warehouse in Delray Beach, FL, and Fragments: Reflections on Memory at Annemarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center. He completed the 2019 summer program at SOMA in Mexico City, and contributed to their 10 year anniversary publication, X. Also in 2019, Migone-Ojeda was awarded a scholarship to attend a residency at Arquetopia in Puebla, Mexico. More recently, in 2024 he was a member of the Canopy Program cohort through the NYC Crit Club, and was an artist in residence at ChaNorth in October 2024.

This work is now available on Artsy through Uncool Gallery.

As the blood trickled down the haft
and splashed across my eyes
I was keenly aware of the intimacy-
i pierced his breast
and felt the pull of his flesh through wood and iron-
and now here we were,
inextricable
doomed to one another, ourselves-
my eyes opened anew,
casting about for forgiveness
his blood dripped from my fingers,
a liquid covenant
forever sealing us as priest and sacrifice,
bonded in devotion
and utterly consumed.

Today I cracked the stone
right along the center, just like you said
Two crumbling hemispheres
pouring blood and
water
This was the last thing you left me
and I'm not sure what I expected to find.
As the liquid oozes from the halves
sitting in the palms of my hands
and mixes with the dust at my feet
somehow the stones feel heavier than before.

life as an archive
memories etched in breathing flesh
A bounded container for the limitless -
La carne no se olvida
lleva cicatrices y callos -
pesan cada día más -
and each day it burns slowly
creaks and snaps as bones stretch
and beg to return to what they were
A self-immolating message whispering across a yawning chasm
aquel fuego frío
cada día transfigura
ultimadamente irreconocible
y bello

💙ARTIST TO WATCH 💙 Check out the work of Dante Migone-Ojeda ( @d_m_ojeda ) from our last OPEN CALL 2021!

He writes: “For many of us, code-switching comes as second nature; we adapt to the pressures we encounter, shifting meanings and language to suit our needs and survival. While often this comes as a necessity, I find that there is something uniquely powerful in this fluidity and flexibility; in our adaptation lives that which no one could destroy. My work uses chains, wood, and other found objects, brought together using text, image, and collage; these combinations perform and propose code-switching as a site of radical transformation, complete with its alternating intimacy and violence. Both of these ideas contain an inherent tension, that of a chain link about to snap or a flower about to wilt. My mixed media sculptures, paintings, and immersive installations suspend those moments, fixing them in place and time. Drawing on elements of ritual and hypersensation, I implicate my viewers as voyeuristic visitors, pulled into a reimagining of desire, subjugation, spirituality, and language. I challenge the white colonial structures that have overshadowed the construction of Latinx identity, and chart a new path rooted in the unique experience of Latinidad in the United States.”

Work information: (1) Entwined (Bound), 2020. Resin, Cut Chain Links, Black Light, Dim. Variable.Te debo todo/Pero me pides tan poco-/All I have to give you/Is the home I built in my heart. (2) Locust Shells and Plastic Flowers (Memoria Genetica) [Detail], 2020. Installation, Dim. Variable.
