Great for me to finally see where my damaged nerves are 4 months later. My bicep and tricep still aren’t functioning but working on strengthening what I do have, after it all atrophied.

Last summer, we had the honor of filming Darryl Tait (@d_rail) at Life Rolls On in Carolina Beach. Watching him charge the surf and carve the skate bowl with such power and precision was unforgettable. Darryl’s been paralyzed for 16 years, but that’s never stopped him from pushing boundaries and redefining what’s possible.

This year, his spirit will be here even if he can’t be. While handcycling along the Alaska Highway training for the Canada Summer Games, Daryl was the victim of a hit-and-run. He suffered broken ribs and other injuries, and he won’t be able to attend Life Rolls On this weekend in person.

But if you’ve ever seen Daryl ride, you know, this won’t hold him down for long.

As I post this, I’m currently back at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre — the same place I did my rehab for my spinal cord injury nearly 16 years ago.

The investigation is still underway.

I’m fresh out of surgery to stitch my deltoid back together, and I’m working hard to regain motor function in my left arm after the brachial plexus injury I sustained from the vehicle impact. As of now, my bicep, tricep, and deltoid are paralyzed, and I have very weak wrist and finger dexterity.

I’ll be heading home soon to recover from surgery before returning to GF Strong for more rehab in about 6+ weeks.

Please pray with me for nerve regeneration — that the nerves will grow back into the muscles. If they haven’t by the 6-month mark, the doctors are talking about a nerve transfer operation, where they take functioning nerves from other parts of my arm and move them to the areas that aren’t working.

This procedure terrifies me right now…And a pray that my body can do the amazing work I know it can do.

This morning, I woke up to read that our absolute shredder of a friend @lorrainetruong has passed… She contributed so much to our community!! And was always a person I could turn to and share my struggles of brain injury life. For those who didn’t Lorraine, she was a professional, downhill, mountain biker, who sustained a severe brain injury, that led her to the life of using a wheelchair. With her determined mindset, she didn’t wanna quit and discovered the world of WCMX and absolutely rocked it! Charging features with efficiency and style. Demanding perfection of herself. She was a fierce competitor, competitor in the sport, and I had the honour of being welcomed into her home in 2019 after a competition in Germany. Our online friendship, blossomed into a lifelong one! I’m gonna miss our chats, but will forever carry on the wisdom you taught me. New Sled! New Adaptive Seat Fab! ⚡️

What a Team! I can’t thank everyone enough for helping me make this happen! @jsandsindustries for getting me connected to the seller out east. @wolsynuk for letting me use his shop all the winter and helping out countless nights after work/ hockey, then lifting my ass on and off the sled over and over! @brandon_c0rmier @ethan.davy22 popping in and being my muscles! My Dad @jtsummitair getting in there! @skylersoukoroff for laying some sick beads on my final piece with his machine!
