Can’t believe we made this happen again! Seeing Stars Denmark. The city of Aarhus turns off the light to see the stars. ✨

Seeing Stars transformed the closing night @aarhusfestuge into a shared moment of wonder.

Brass music filled the darkness. People looked up together. With Aarhus Space Centre and Ole Rømer Observatory the night sky became a place of discovery and connection.

Every New Year, my dog Q is terrified by fireworks. His fear inspired the friendly fireworks SPARK.

Thousands of biodegradable sparks of light float silently through the air. No explosions, no smoke, no frightened animals.

I love seeing dogs experience SPARK with their owners, looking up and following the lights.

The fireworks of the future are not louder or bigger. They are quieter, cleaner, and finally something Q can enjoy too. 🐕✨

You make the landscape. The landscape makes you.

PRESENCE turns your body into the interface. No screens, no sensors. Phosphorescent materials, light-sensitive surfaces, luminous particles and moving spheres transform every touch and movement into temporary traces of light. You are encouraged to touch the art, to become one with it.

Nearly 180,000 people became part of PRESENCE at the Groninger Museum, setting a summer attendance record.

The work received the AZ Award of Merit, the LIT Lighting Design Award and the Digital Dozen Storytelling Award in New York.

We change the world simply by being in it.

The question is not whether we leave a trace, but what kind of trace we choose to create.

Did you know flowers glow?

Working with biologists in Leiden and Bali, I started experimenting with specialised light and living flowers. And suddenly, the whole world started to glow.

What if clean air were not a privilege, but a public experience?

Launched here in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, SMOG FREE TOWER transforms one of the city’s greatest challenges into a place of possibility.

The seven-metre tower draws in polluted air and releases clean air around it, creating a space where people can breathe and experience a cleaner future. The captured smog is then compressed into Smog Free Rings, turning pollution into a visible reminder that change is possible.

SMOG FREE TOWER is local solution for clean air, a demonstration of how design can make problems tangible, and better cities imaginable.

Because true beauty is not what we own. It is the air we share.

Water is everywhere. A new WATERLICHT is coming to Europe soon 💙

As a Dutchman, I have always lived surrounded by water. As a kid, we were only allowed to play outside once we had our swimming diploma. Water was simply part of growing up.

My Chinese friends tell me I am crazy. Who lives below sea level? Very dangerous! But the Dutch have been doing it for hundreds of years. We don’t move to Germany or to the hills. We stay in the lowlands and use our creativity and engineering to create a home.

Now our world is changing. Global sea levels could rise by around 2 metres by 2100. But somehow these numbers don’t create change. They’re too abstract.

So when the Dutch Waterschappen, the water authorities who oversee all the pumps and dikes, asked me to create more water awareness, I asked myself: what if they did nothing? What if they all went to the Maldives for a year, did not reply their emails or phones?

How high would the water rise?

That became WATERLICHT, a flood of light showing how high the water could reach.

WATERLICHT has travelled through 12 countries. Now it is returning to Europe, at a time when our relationship with water feels more important than ever.
I can’t wait to see people step into its blue light again. They look up, walk through the glowing waves and reach for the light.

Being inside WATERLICHT is a bit eerie. Is this our future? But it is also hopeful, because it is not our future yet.

We fight against water. We learn from water. We live with water.

Standing underneath WATERLICHT, I realise that the most important thing is not to be scared about our future, but to stay curious. By turning rising water into an experience, we make an invisible future something people can feel today.

And when we can feel the future, we can start imagining a better one together.
