Can’t believe we made this happen again! Seeing Stars Denmark. The city of Aarhus turns off the light to see the stars. ✨

Seeing Stars transformed the closing night @aarhusfestuge into a shared moment of wonder.

Brass music filled the darkness. People looked up together. With Aarhus Space Centre and Ole Rømer Observatory the night sky became a place of discovery and connection.

“It became the start of a sort of meditation.”
Jakob Tekla Jørgensen | Director of Aarhus Festuge

Lights off. Stars on. ✨

Thanks so much to everyone who made this possible: @unesco_nl @darksky_intl @aarhuskommune @aarhus_university @arosartmuseum @studioolafureliasson @darkskyruskin @kathleengferrier 🎥 @maltebulow.photography

Water Star at Times Square NY ✨

One of the world’s largest billboards comes alive with Water Star, transforming water into a luminous galaxy of light using biodegradable glowing proteins.

What if a drop of water contained a universe?

Glowing Coral Reef: How can light help heal our oceans? 🌊✨

Together with ocean scientists, we explore how specific wavelengths of light can stimulate coral growth, reveal its health and help restore underwater life.

From revealing damage to inspiring regeneration. 💙

PLEASE TOUCH
You make the landscape. The landscape makes you.

PRESENCE turns your body into the interface. No screens, no sensors. Phosphorescent materials, light-sensitive surfaces, luminous particles and moving spheres transform every touch and movement into temporary traces of light. You are encouraged to touch the art, to become one with it.

Nearly 180,000 people became part of PRESENCE at the Groninger Museum, setting a summer attendance record.

The work received the AZ Award of Merit, the LIT Lighting Design Award and the Digital Dozen Storytelling Award in New York.

We change the world simply by being in it.

The question is not whether we leave a trace, but what kind of trace we choose to create.

The future starts with imagination. ✨

A virtual flood of light. Biodegradable fireworks. Flowers that glow. A glowing bicycle path.

From @TED and @NASA to the @LoveTomorrow Summit, @DaanRoosegaarde shares how seemingly
impossible ideas can become reality.

Because before we can build a better future, we have to imagine it.

Coming up next: Dubai, Košice and Finland.

Where should Daan spark imagination next? ✨

In a world governed by algorithms, data, and prediction, @DaanRoosegaarde believes our greatest capacity for change begins with wonder. The Dutch artist and innovator is celebrated for large-scale public works that fuse art, science, and technology, making invisible forces—from air pollution to climate change and biodiversity loss—visible, tangible, and deeply human.

Collaborating with scientists, engineers, and organisations including @NASA and @europeanspaceagency, he creates luminous landscapes and pioneering environmental projects that challenge how we experience the world. Convinced that emotion drives action more powerfully than facts alone, Roosegaarde continues to reshape the relationship between creativity, nature, and innovation.

Read our interview to discover why beauty, curiosity, and collaboration are the foundations of Roosegaarde vision for the future.

Ik verdiepte me.

What if clean air were not a privilege, but a public experience?

Launched here in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, SMOG FREE TOWER transforms one of the city’s greatest challenges into a place of possibility.

The seven-metre tower draws in polluted air and releases clean air around it, creating a space where people can breathe and experience a cleaner future. The captured smog is then compressed into Smog Free Rings, turning pollution into a visible reminder that change is possible.

SMOG FREE TOWER is local solution for clean air, a demonstration of how design can make problems tangible, and better cities imaginable.

Because true beauty is not what we own. It is the air we share.

We all want green energy.

Inspired by the windmills of Kinderdijk, WINDLICHT transforms the machines of clean energy into art, revealing the beauty of the infrastructure shaping our future.

Green beams follow turbine blades moving at speeds of up to 280 km/h, guided by a precision tracking system that keeps the laser light aligned as the turbines speed up, slow down, and move in and out of sync.

See a ballet of light across the night sky.

Commissioned by KPN and supported by Eneco.

Daan Roosegaarde turns light into a language that makes the invisible readable. From dancing lines on wind turbines to flowers that glow as butterflies see them, the Dutch artist builds landscapes of the future where technology and nature meet. Born in 1979 in Nieuwkoop, he founded Studio Roosegaarde in Rotterdam as a social design lab guided by protopia: a world improved step by step. Beauty that is also cleanliness, clean air, clean energy and shared experience shape his work, from public installations to living laboratories for how we might coexist with the planet.
