🏀 Full Circle Dad Moment

20 years ago, I made myself a promise: don’t quit.

This past weekend, I walked back onto my college basketball court for ONU Hoops’ 60th Anniversary — but this time, my daughter was right beside me.

The wins.

The losses.

Back-to-back NAIA Elite Eight runs.

Injuries. Setbacks. Long practices.

But the greatest lessons weren’t about basketball.

They were about discipline. Resilience. Brotherhood. And learning from Coach Ralph Hodge that character matters more than stats.

My senior year, I was hurt and barely played. Walking away would’ve been easy. But finishing mattered. I wanted my kids to know their dad shows up — especially when it’s hard.

Standing there as an alum, with my daughter next to me, reminded me:

Our kids may not remember every achievement…

But they will remember how we handled adversity.

Dads — when life shifts your plan, keep moving forward.
